Summary Introduction

To review:

The role of calcium in the regulation of the citric acid cycle.

Introduction:

In living aerobic organisms, a series of biochemical reactions occur in order to release the energy stored in 2-carbon acetyl, that is, acetyl-CoA in a cyclic manner, which is termed as the citric acid cycle or Krebs cycle. This cycle occurs in the matrix region of the mitochondria in a living cell. Acetyl-CoA is formed from pyruvate by the process of glycolysis and by the fatty acid catabolism. The first compound formed in this cycle is a 3-carbon acid, and thus, this cycle is known as the tricarboxylic acid cycle (TCA).
