Introduction:

Chemical mutagens or even spontaneous mutations can cause changes in the structure of the nitrogenous bases in a DNA sequence. These changes, if not repaired, can get fixed into the DNA sequence with subsequent cycles of replication. In order to avoid this, there are DNA repair systems that are present in all cells.
