Concept explainers
Interpretation:The process for the determination of limiting reactant and the use of mass and mole ratio of reactant molecules to check the limiting reactant needs to be determined.
Concept Introduction: A
There can be more than one reactant molecules involve in a chemical reaction to form the products. The reactant which is present in limited amount in a chemical reaction is called as limiting reactant.
Explanation of Solution
In a chemical reaction, if the limiting reactant will consume completely, the reactant cannot form more product in the absence of it. To check the limiting reactant, mole ratio must be used. Masses of reactant molecules cannot use because all chemical reactions depend on mole ratio of reactant and product not masses.
- Step -1: Calculate moles of each reactant.
- Step-2: Determine the limiting reactant with the help of mole ratio of both reactants.
- Step-3: Determine the mole and mass of product with the help of mole ratio of product and limiting molecule.
