Chapter 22, Problem 5EQ
Summary Introduction
To review:
The five methods of introduction of the cloned gene in plants.
Introduction:
A specific gene is usually selected for improving a plant’s resistance towards a disease or a pathogen. This desired gene is then isolated and grown in a specific medium to produce multiple copies. The cloned gene is then incorporated within the plant genome. The selection and incorporation of this gene in the plant produces a transgenic plant having the properties of the selected gene. Transgenic plants are also produced to improve the quality of the plant.
