Which part of the scapula articulates with the clavicle?

Expert Solution & Answer
Check Mark
Summary Introduction

To review:

The part of scapula that articulates with the clavicle.

Introduction:

The clavicle located at the anterior end and scapula at the posterior end together constitute the pectoral girdle or the shoulder girdle. The shoulder is constituted by the pectoral girdles along with the associated muscles. The pectoral girdle is involved in attaching the upper limb with the trunk as well as a number of muscles that take part in the movements of the limb.

Explanation of Solution

The clavicles are also known by the name collarbones. These are thin, long bones that are horizontally located in the superior thorax region. Clavicles are engaged in various functions such as serving as a support for holding the scapulae as well as the arms in a lateral position and transferring the compression from the upper limbs toward the axial skeleton. Scapulae also termed as shoulder blades are flat bones with triangular shape. There are three borders in each scapula.

The posterior surface of the scapula is made from a structure called spine. The lateral end of the spine is a flat projection known as acromion. This projection attaches with the acromial terminal of the clavicle. The word acromion stands for apex of shoulder.
