Introduction:
A temporary magnet created when there is a current in a wire coil is termed as electromagnet.
An electromagnet is a temporary magnet. It behaves like a magnet only when there is current in the wire coil. On passing a current through the wire coil, a magnetic field is induced. When this current is turned off, there will be no magnetic field and hence no magnet.
Conclusion:
An electromagnet can be turned on or off by switching the current on or off respectively.
