Concept explainers
For the following computer problems, any appropriate software may be used. Input prompts should fully explain what is required of the user (the program should be user-friendly). The resulting output should be well labeled and self-explanatory. For spreadsheet problems, any appropriate software may be used.
7.17 Use a spreasheet program to solve for the centroid location of built-up areas such as shown in Problem 7.12 and 7.28. The user should be able to input the appropriate geometric properties for any shapes of the types shown, and the program should then determine the centroid location and display the result. Vary a single shape or dimension and observe how the location of the centroid is affected.

- Compute the centroidal coordinates of the L-shaped region in terms of b and t using the method of composite areas.arrow_forwardUsing integration, locate the centroid of the area under the n-th order parabola in terms of b, h, and n (n is a positive integer). (b) Check the result of part (a) with Table 8.1 for the case n = 2.arrow_forwardThe parametric equations of the plane curve known as a cycloid are x=a(sin) and y=a(1cos). Use integration to find the coordinates of the centroid of the cycloid obtained by varying from 0 to 2 rad.arrow_forward
- Small screws are used to fasten a piece of hardwood to the bracket that is formed from 1/20-in.-thick steel sheet metal. For steel, =0.283lb/in.3, and for hardwood, =0.029lb/in.3. Locate the center of gravity of the assembly.arrow_forwardDetermine Iu for the inverted T-section shown. Note that the section is symmetric about the y-axis.arrow_forwardUsing the method of composite areas, find the centroid of the truncated parabolic complement.arrow_forward
- Use integration to locate the centroid of the shaded region in terms of R and t. (b) Show that when t0 the result of part (a) agrees with that given in Table 8.2 for a quarter circular arc.arrow_forwardUse integration to compute the z-coordinate of the centroid of the half cone.arrow_forwardVerify the centroidal z-coordinate of the pyramid shown in Table 8.3 by integration.arrow_forward
