Matter is composed of atoms, which are further composed of protons, neutrons and electrons.
The protons are positively charged particleswhereas the electrons are negatively charged. However, the neutrons have no charge and so are neutral.

When two objects are rubbed against each other, electrons transfer from one object to another, depending on the object’s affinity for electrons. The body, which loses electrons, has an excess of positive charge. While the body gaining electrons becomes negatively charged.
