Question 4
Maggie works at a very popular freshly squeezed lemonade stand on a beach that sells regular
lemonade and strawberry lemonade. To make a glass of regular lemonade it takes 4 whole lemons.
To make a glass of strawberry lemonade it takes 3 whole lemons and 2 average sized strawberries.
The owners figured they have a budget so that each morning a truck delivers 900 lemons to the
stand and 408 strawberries to the stand. On each glass of regular lemonade, a profit of R1,95 is
made. The stand is able to charge more for strawberry lemonades and a profit of R2,10 is made on
each glass of that. The owners want Maggie to sell at least twice the amount of strawberry
lemonade each day as regular lemonade because more profit is made on the strawberry lemonade.
They have also asked that at least 50 strawberry lemonades get sold each day because the
strawberries spoil more quickly than the lemons. How many regular lemonades and how many
strawberry lemonades should Maggie sell each day to…

Create a data table that shows the size of the population every half-hour for the first eight-hours. What patterns can you find in the data table? (a) Create a graph of the relationship between time and the size of the culture. From your graph or your table, estimate the number of bacteria present in the culture after 45 minutes. Explain carefully how you got your estimate. (b) Write an equation that represents the size of the bacteria culture as a function of time. Enter that equation in the data table window and compare it to your table values. Graph the equation and compare it to the graph of your table…arrow_forward
- You are the city planner in charge of running a high-efficiency power line from a power station to a new shopping center being built nearby. The power station is located on 1st St, and the shopping center is on Shopping Ln. The power station is 10miles north of Shopping Ln, and the shopping center is 7 miles east of 1st St. While the power line can run above ground on 1st St, it must be run underground away from 1st St. The cost of running the power line some distance underground is three times that of running the power line the same distance above the ground. How far from the Power Station should the wire switch from running above ground (i.e., along 1st St.) to running below ground?arrow_forwardYour Question: Problem: Officer Kevin Taylor was on his first day of work and he came upon a wreck at 5 PM. He saw a deer to the side of the road and a long skid mark on the road. The driver was a 26-year-old MCTC student, was not hurt and on the way home from class. The driver claimed to be driving at the speed limit, 35 mph. Office Taylor, having just finished his college algebra course at MCTC, knows that the length L, in feet, of the skid mark and the speed S, in miles per hour, are related by the following formula: S=5.05 * Square root L of a car when brakes are applied is related to the length L, in feet, of the skid mark. The skid mark measures 70 feet. Q1: Identify and define the independent and dependent variables. Q2: Identify the relevant and irrelevant information. Q3: Calculate the speed of the vehicle. Q4: Officer Taylor will write a ticket if the driver is over the speed limit. Will the driver receive a ticket?arrow_forwardA biologist is studying several different bacteria cultures. - A firm in a perfectly competitive industry is currently producing 1,000 units per day at a total cost of $600. If the firm produced 800 units per day, its total cost would be $400, and if it produced 500 units per day, its total cost would be $375. Instructions: In parts a and c, round your answers to 2 decimal places. In part d, round your answer to 1 decimal place. a. What are the firm's ATC per unit at these three levels of production? At 1,000 units per day, ATC = $ At 800 units per day, ATC = $ At 500 units per day, ATC = $ b. If every firm in this industry has the same cost structure, is the industry in long-run competitive equilibrium? (Click to select) v Yes or No c. From what you know about these firms' cost structures, what is the highest possible price per unit that could exist as the market price in long-run equilibrium? $ d. If the price in part c ends up being the market price and if the normal rate of accounting profit is 10 percent, then how big will each firm's…arrow_forwardActivity 1.3 Solve the following problems 1) Jane ate 4/5 of a watermelon. What percentage of the watermelon did she eat? 2) Pedro needs to call his classmates to give them final instructions about their class project. He thinks he will need about 2 minutes to talk to each one of them. If his phone has a current load worth P425 and a call would cost him P6.15 per minute, how many of his classmates will he be able to talk to? 3) Maria was asked to go to the market to buy 2 kilos of pork, kilo of garlic, and 6 pieces of saba. One kilo of pork costs P 215, 1 kilo of garlic costs P 105, and one piece of saba costs P2.30. If Maria is given P 700, will she be able to buy everything she was asked to buy? If yes, how much change is left, if any? 4) Miguel agrees to lend you money for a monthly interest of 12%.
