- Gauge pressure is the pressure read by a pressure gauge. The gauge pressure will be zero if the pressure is the same as the general atmospheric pressure, because the gauge measures only the excess above atmospheric pressure. The actual pressure will thus be atmospheric pressure plus gauge pressure. Atmospheric pressure is about 14 pounds per square inch. The Rankine temperature scale is the Fahrenheit verson of the absolute temperature, and absolute zero in Rankine is about -460 F. Now, imagine a football has been stored in a warm locker room at a temperature of 71 F, and has a gauge pressure of 12.5 pounds per square inch. Next, it is taken outside and cooled to 40 F. What will the gauge pressure be after this is done?arrow_forwardSmall differences in gas pressures are commonly measured with a micro-manometer of the type illustrated in Fig. (3). This device consists of two large reservoirs each having a cross sectional area A, which are filled with a liquid having a specific weight Y1 and connected by a U-tube of cross-sectional area A, containing a liquid of specific weight y2. When a differential gas pressure, P, - P2 , is applied, a differential reading, h, develops. It is desired to have this reading sufficiently large (so that it can be easily read) for small pressure At differentials. Determine the relationship between h and P1 P, when the area ratio is small, and show Ar that the differential reading, h, can be magnified by making the difference in specific weights, Y2 - Y1 , small. Assume that initially (with P = 2P2). %3D P1 P2 Y1 Figure (3)arrow_forwardI need help for this homework, inside the chamber there is going to be vacuum pressure of 35 mbar and Ineed it to be controlled as to reach vacuum pressure of 5 mbar. I need to use butterfly valve to achieve that. Thus the system is going to reach negative 35 mbar and then the valve should open to allow the atmospheric pressure to inter the chamber, but I need to calculate the valve's flow rate in four different setups so I can determine how much time I need to open it, for each setup, until I reach negative 5 mbar. Calculate the flow rate once the valve is open: a. 25% b. 50% c. 75% d. 100% Valve Ć = 5cm Chambe Chambers dimensions: H= 40 cm W= 50 cm L= 40 cmarrow_forward
