14. The length of a rectangle is 20 units more than its width. The area of the
rectangle is x4
– 100.
Which expression represents the width of the rectangle?
A. x² + 10 because the area expression can be rewritten as
(x² + 10) (x² – 10) which equals (x² + 10) ((x² + 10) – 20).
B. x² + 30 because the area expression can be rewritten as
(x² – 10) (x² + 10) which equals (x² – 10) ((x² + 30) – 20).
С. х?
- 10 because the area expression can be rewritten as
(x2 – 10) (x² + 10) which equals (x? – 10)((x² – 10) + 20).
D. x2 – 30 because the area expression can be rewritten as
(x2 + 10) (x² – 10) which equals (x² + 10) ((x² – 30) + 20).

- Expressions can be simplified by combining like terms. The result is called an equivalent expression. Only like terms can be combined. If terms have a different variable or are raised to a different power, they cannot be combined. For example, in the expression 8x^22 + 3x + 4x, 3x and 4x can be combined to make 7x since they share a variable and do not have an exponent. But 8x^22 cannot be combined with these terms because it has a different exponent. Constants can always be grouped together when simplifying an expression. The expression 8b + 2 + b + 4 can be simplified to 9b + 6 by combining the terms that include variable b and the constants 2 and 4. 7b + 8b^22 + 3 + y + 2b + 2y + 2 = A 17b^22 + 3y + 5 B 8b^22 + 9bb + 5y C 8b^22 + 9by + 5 D 8b^22 + 9b + 3y + 5arrow_forwardIdentify the terms in the expression 5x+2y .arrow_forwardFind the quotient: (x43x31000)(x+5) .arrow_forward
