Win the Prize. In a carnival booth, you can win a stuffed giraffe if you toss a quarter into a small dish. The dish is on a shelf above the point where the quarter leaves your hand and is a horizontal distance of 2.1 m from this point (Fig. E3.19). It you toss the coin with a velocity of 6.4 m/s at an angle of 60° above the horizontal, the coin will land in the dish. Ignore air resistance.

The dish is on a shelf above the point where the quarter leaves your hand and is a horizontal distance of 2.1 m from this point (Fig. E3.19). If you toss the coin with a velocity of 6.4 m/s at an angle of 60 degrees above the horizontal, the coin will land in the dish. Ignore air resistance. (a) What is the height of the shelf above the point where the quarter leaves your hand? (b) What is the vertical component of the velocity of the quarter just before it lands in the dish?

A student stands at the edge of a cliff and throws a stone horizontally over the edge with a speed of 18.0 m/s. The cliff is 50.0 m above a flat, horizontal beach, as shown in Figure P3.24. How long after being released does the stone strike the beach below the cliff? With what speed and angle of impact does the stone land?
You buy a plastic dart gun, and being a clever physics student you decide to do a quick calculation to find its maximum horizontal range. You shoot the gun straight up, and it takes 4.2 s for the dart to land back at the barrel.
What is the maximum possible horizontal range that could be achieved by your gun, assuming the dart lands at the same level it started?

My distance of the x value is 4.60m. My distance for the y value is 1.1670 meters. The distance total is 4.746 meters. The problem is asking me to figure out the time of the object in air.I don't have velocity, I know the velocity initial is more than 0 and that the velocity final is zero. If I want to find time, I would need to use a vector diagram of velocity and use the resultant as my velocity. However, I have no idea what the velocity of Y or velocity of X. I only know that the velocity of X is in equilibrium and is constant as well as knowing that velocity final is zero. Oh yeah also velocity initial is velocity of the x value.arrow_forward
