Chapter 26, Problem 1PIT
Summary Introduction
To determine:
The way by which the musculoskeletal system maintains homeostasis.
Introduction:
The musculoskeletal system consists of the skeletal system (hydroskeletal, endoskeletal and exoskeletal) and skeletal muscles (muscle fibers). The endoskeletal system consists of bones, bone tissues, and cartilage; whereas, the muscle fibers consist of actin, myosin, and motor neurons.

Gather information on the structure and function of skeletal, cardiac and smooth muscle. Combine all this information to create a brief guide to the structure and function of vertebrate muscle. Points that you need to consider include cell shape; cell size; number of nuclei per cell; position of the nuclei; presence or absence of striations; presence or absence of branching; and presence or absence of intercalated discs.b) Follow the table with a one-sentence explanation of what an intercalateddisc is. c) Briefly explain what happens to actin and myosin in muscle during rigor mortis.
Why would skeletal muscle be unsuitable for the wall of the urinary bladder? Explain how this illustrates the complementarity of form and function at a cellular and molecular level.
"A muscle's role is to pull,
not to push"
