How to justify the validity of relativity to a friend who argues that relativity is absurd as it is obvious that moving clocks don’t run slow and moving object aren’t shorter than when they are at rest.
Answer to Problem 1CQ
The effect of relativity is not obvious to human as the objects we come across have very less speed when compared to the
Explanation of Solution
The observation of relativity is obvious for objects with speed comparable to the speed of light. In day to day life we encounter objects whose speed is much smaller than the speed of light.
The theory of relativity is equally applicable to objects of all speed. However the effect of relativity on the objects, human being generally encounter is very small, which is beyond the capability of human senses to differentiate. Thus it is not obvious that moving clocks don’t run slow and moving object isn’t shorter than when they are at rest. However it cannot show the absurdity of the theory of relativity.
Conclusion:
The effect of relativity is not obvious to human as the objects we come across have very less speed when compared to the speed of light. However it cannot show the absurdity of the theory of relativity.
