Introduction: The initial stage of glucose oxidation in glycolysis proceeds in the cytosol. In this process, molecular oxygen is not used. A small amount of energy in the form of ATP is produced with three carbon compounds and pyruvate as the end product. In aerobic respiration, pyruvate formed in glycolysis is shifted to the mitochondria, where their oxidation occurs.
