Concept explainers
Interpretation: The quantitative observation and qualitative observations needs to be identified.
Concept Introduction:
The quantitative observations are those observations which give idea of the quantity of any particular data. The qualitative observations explain the unstructured and non-numerical data and it only explains different properties of species. Whenever there is a numerical data given, even if the quality or property is mentioned, it will be considered as a quantitative data.
Explanation of Solution
In statement (a), the waist size is given 31 inches which explains the measurement value thus, it is a quantitative observation.
In statement (b), the color of the eye is given that the color is blue. It explains a physical property thus, it is a qualitative observation.
In statement (c), the comparison between right and left index finger is done and an exact value is given according to which the index finger of right hand is ¼ inch longer than the left hand. Due to exact number given, it is a quantitative observation.
In statement (d), the property of trees is mentioned that the leaves are green in summer thus, it is a qualitative observation.
In statement (e), the quality of apple is explained that it is 95% water but exact data is given thus, it is a quantitative observation.
In statement (f) the quality of chemistry subject is explained that it is an easy subject. Thus, it is a qualitative observation.
In statement (g), it is given that the score in the chemistry exam is 90% thus, it explains number of marks and it is a quantitative observation.
Therefore, statements (a), (c), (e) and (g) shows quantitative observations and statements (b), (d) and (f) represent qualitative observations.
