Teacher, Coach, Assessor, Instructor, Presenter, Listener. Responsibilities; The teacher’s responsibility is to deliver a course which is appropriate for the learners, and take into account individual needs and have clear aims and objectives. Learners should be told at the start of each session what the aims and objectives are and how these relate to the course outcome. During the session teachers should support their learners and assess their knowledge through a range of formative assessments. I also use a learning board that supports the learners by understanding what they know and need to know. Teachers have a responsibility to keep trainees needs covered (physically and emotionally), They need to assess the safety of classroom activities and make sure that none of the learners are being bullied, harassed, discriminated against either by themselves, the organisation, or by other learners. Another part of the role is to create the session plans; these should be the skeleton of the training, the first part to understand how long you need to spend on a subject. Make sure that you have everything you need to make the course successful. By using questionnaires or thinking
During lessons it may become apparent that a learner has a specific need that requires help such as financial guidance, bereavement, dyslexia, or help with maths/English skills.
Using my personal presence, presonal example, charisma and tools such as ground rules, I need to create the right first impression to ensure that my learners are aware of their responsibilities within the learning environment. I try to create an environment of support, collaboration and mutual respect. I am responsible for ensuring inclusivity of the learners and celebrating their diversity. I have a duty of care in respect of my learners and should get advice and guidance from my fellow professionals in areas I am unsure of. The environment should be in accordance with Health and Safety requirements allowing free movement and access, no trip hazards, safe, tested electrical equipment. I need to create a psychologically safe environment without intimidation or disrespect. I would do this by challenging inappropriate behaviour and encouraging positive behaviour. I could also refer learners back to the ground rules. Depending on the learning needs / progress of individuals I might need to adapt and target some parts of the course content. I need to minimise jargon and adapt my language and style to the needs of the participants. I need to create opportunities for networking, self-development and experimentation. I must also be aware of any perceived or real barriers to learning and make appropriate interventions. To do this I would confer with teaching assistants or ‘privately’ discuss any issues directly with learners.
When teaching the individual needs of the student may need to be passed on to another professional to facilitate learning if so this should be done in a professional manner and must treat the student with respect. It is important that the correct professional to deal with the individual learner needs is selected and understand the job role and how they can support me in the classroom.
I am responsible for ensuring that my mandatory training is up to date, and that I follow all codes, legislation, and recommendations when performing my duties. I will ensure that my job description is current, and am aware of my responsibilities within my role. It is important that I attend refresher courses to update my practical skills, and attend new training courses to improve my working knowledge and skills.
Planning and preparation of teaching is supremely important, the teacher and teaching assistant need to work together to achieve the best learning result. Lesson plans and structures will be implemented and will be catered for each learner; they will include teaching methods and techniques, assessments and targets. Teachers have policies, procedures and regulations to adhere to and within organisations will have to take into consideration budgets and resources.
1.1 The primary role of a teacher is to teach. They have to take into consideration the role in which they take to enable learners to learn.
Writing the teaching objectives and the learning outcomes, what the pupils will be able to do at the end of the lesson.
This means keeping children safe from accidents (i.e. road safety), crime and bullying and actively promoting their well-being in a healthy, safe and supportive environment. It also encompasses issues such as pupil health and safety and bullying, about which there are specific statutory requirements, and a range of other issues, for example, arrangements for meeting the medical needs of children with medical conditions, providing first aid, school security, drugs and substance misuse.
1, Explain what your main role & responsibilities are as a teacher/trainer in Education and Training (1.1)
As a course lecturer my responsibilities in identifying and meeting the needs of my learners will start from the initial interview with them when I will assess if the learner has any additional needs. This will carry on throughout their time at Oaklands College periodically. This enables me to arrange for additional learning support for example. If they have any medical conditions or a criminal background I will take steps so as to ensure this does not affect their learning or the learners around them. This equality allows all learners the same chance on the course selected.
Understand the role of learning and development activities in meeting individual needs. 2. Be able to identify learning and development activities to meet individual needs and
1.1 One of the class teachers main roles is to monitor and assess pupil achievement. They need to know how their class are progressing and be able to report on this. The teacher plans the lessons and schemes of work to enable the children to reach their learning objectives. It is important that the teacher, children and support staff know the objectives so they can understand the learning that is taking place.
I will need to consider the resources I use to ensure they meet the needs of the learners. It will be important to use a wide variety of resources when I am teaching, the main reasons for this is to accommodate different learning styles but also to help learner stimulation and interaction.
A Teacher is then responsible to plan the lessons in such a way that it meets all the students’ needs, ensuring that learners are on the right program and follow company policies and procedures.
Recognising that the learner’s needs are important so gathering as much understanding of the learner is important. Gathering information of student’s knowledge/understanding through an initial assessment. Learners can have literacy, numeracy and ICT skills tests prior to being accepted on the course or during the course so that understanding of any learning needs can be determined.
