Level 4 certification in Education and Training Task 1 1, Explain what your main role & responsibilities are as a teacher/trainer in Education and Training (1.1) My role as a Teacher As a teacher, one of my main roles is to motivate my learners, to develop their ability to learn also to develop my learner’s aspiration to learn. When you train to teach you read about delivering training and how to facilitating learning, but in reality you do much more than that, your role as a teacher is not just about teaching your subject or preparing learners for assessment. The focus of your role as a teacher I feel relates very much to inspiring your learners to change and develop their personal, social and professional skills to the best of their …show more content…
With personal matters it is important not to given preferential treatment to one or a group of learners and to treat everyone equally. Teachers should not give out personal information or get personally involved with a student e.g. not join social networking sites etc. You should avoid touching students inappropriately or give preferential treatment to some students and not others. These boundaries could have a negative effect on us as teachers as well as other professionals within the organisation. We therefore need to deal with these boundaries by referring to the Institute for Learning's Code of Practice (2008) which outlines the behaviours expected of teachers. (Word count 234) 3, Summarise the key aspics of legislation, regulatory requirements and codes of practice relating to your role and responsibilities as a teacher/trainer. (1.2) . Teachers always have to protect themselves and the best way to do it is to follow the rules of the code of practice. Being a teacher makes me automatically an example for my students so therefore I must not discriminate, abuse (physically or verbally), dress inappropriate, and be late or turn up for teaching intoxicated. The Code of Professional Practice comes in support of all teachers as guidance to how to be a good teacher. In a continually changing society the profession of teaching is
1. Explain in detail how you would support and advance the learning of children and young people in your class:
Explain how to establish and maintain a safe and supportive learning environment 7.3.1. Explain how to establish ground rules with learner’s to promote respect for each other. 9.3.2. Explain how to promote appropriate behaviour and respect for others. 7.3.2.
The focus of education should be the learner as a whole including academic, social, emotional and physiological needs. I feel that only when the needs of the learner are met, can they truly learn to their fullest potential. The role of the learner should be that of a discoverer. They should be the ones making the meaning of what they are learning and connecting it to their lives. The goal of the teacher then becomes, a facilitator or guide who is there to help students make the most of their learning
As a tutor, I have many responsibilities to make the learners of which I teach, feel safe and supported in their learning environment.
There are specific laws and codes of practice in a school setting. It is important to know about them when you work in an education environment as school staff will relay in them in many different situations.
iii) Comment on the following areas. Refer to your micro-teaching session and what you have learnt about teaching and learning in general, as appropriate.
I’m aware that all staff that work with and are part of the setting have the responsibility in modelling standards of behaviour. This is both from who deals with those children that attend the school and amongst colleagues, as the examples of those will have a significant influence on the children. Good relations and strong partnerships between staff members will encourage positive and good behaviour of all children. All staff and adults within the school setting should always aim to create a cheerful and positive environment that will hold high, but have reasonable expectations of all children who attends the school, highlight the meaning of being respected as an individual within the setting of the
Standard Two of the Arkansas Code of Ethics states, “An educator maintains competence regarding his or her professional practice inclusive of skills, knowledge, dispositions, and responsibilities relating to his or her organizational position.” I fell this may be the most important task for a teacher. As the history of teaching has shown, teaching, as a career, is dynamic. While some practices of teaching may go in and out of style; for the most part, methodologies and theories of teaching will constantly change. Sometimes, the changes occur with the generations. Being able to adapt your teaching style for what is needed can make the difference between being a low-quality teacher and a high-quality teacher.
There are five propositions that the National Board for Professional Teacher Standards has listed, which are Proposition 1: Teachers are Committed to Students and Their Learning, Proposition 2: Teachers Know the Subjects They Teach and How to Teach Those Subjects to Students, Proposition 3: Teachers are Responsible for Managing and Monitoring Student Learning, Proposition 4: Teachers Think Systematically about Their Practice and Learn from Experience, and Proposition 5: Teachers are Members of Learning Communities. The five propositions are similar to the code of ethics that are set up for teachers. The first proposition discusses the commitment that teachers are to have for their students learning. It’s main focus is that the student are treated equally and they are given the chance to learn. The National Board for Professional Teacher Standards (1987) stated “They believe all students can learn”. This statement is very crucial for teachers to understand, because if we give up on our students they will eventually give up on themselves. Proposition two discusses how teachers must know their content and how to deliver their content. Knowing your content is a must when you are a teacher, but if you don’t know how to deliver the information to your students you are back at square one. This proposition wants the teachers to be a master of the concepts being taught, and understand the information on a real-world basis. Also the teacher must be able to fill the gap of
As well as recognising the benefits of the link between school, home and community to children/students’ wellbeing and learning. Standards 7.1, 7.2, 7.3 and 7.4 align with ‘responsibility’ and ‘respect’ in the personal code of conduct. This is evident in the commitment to maintaining respectful, professional and collaborative relationships with my lecturers/supervisors, fellow students, colleagues, children, families and the wider community. Acknowledging the benefits of the link between school, hoe and community to the children/students’ wellbeing and
It is important that good relationships are established between teachers and the parents of their pupils. This is because if the parents are kept informed and are interested in what their child is doing then they will encourage the child to do the best they can and to do out of school learning and activities. It is also important that the parent trusts the school and the teacher to do the best by the child and the best way to create this trust is to keep the parent in the loop. This principle covers beneficence, autonomy and trustworthiness.
• IfL Code of Practice for Teachers (2008) covers the activities of teachers in Lifelong learning sector. Gravells, a the code is based on seven behaviours, namely: professional
LO,1. Demonstrate a systematic and critical understanding of the concept of professionalism; the range of roles and responsibilities, both across the sector and in relation to own subject teaching and the impact of each.
My personal philosophy of education as a teacher is to have the kind of elementary classroom in which students feel safe, welcome, curious, and happy. This can be done by implementing some of the techniques found in Teach Like A Champion by Doug Lemov. Some of the techniques that I plan on implementing are the techniques of: stretch it, format matters, and warm/strict. One way in which I would make my students feel safe is by implementing some of the ideas found in Is everyone really equal? by Ӧzlem Sensoy and Robin DiAngelo. As a teacher, it’s important to help a student understand where they are in relation to others while not placing judgment. Above all, it is important for the student to learn respect for self and others.
The teachers must follow their code of conduct that states that they must use appropriate language. They must promote gender equality, and exercise authority with compassion and keep parents informed about learner’s progress.
