French Imperialism

Under Napoleon, France controlled almost all of Europe and Northern Africa as well as most of the Americas(through controlling Spain). Napoleon had tried to conquer all who insulted him, he was egotistical maniac. Although he attempted follow the values that the First French Revolutionists made Liberte, Egalite, Fraternite, Napoleon had set up multiple laws that gave some sense of freedom and equality to the people of france through the civil code also known as The Napoleonic Code.

Napoleon was a man who had reformed france into something that it wouldn’t have wanted to happen 10 years before he took over in a military coup and ruled by dictatorship. In the eyes of many of the French he was a hero, he …show more content…

For example it provided political unity to India which had been torn by dissensions and strife before the arrival of the western powers.France had attempted to unify Indochina through growth and a government . This was made possible due to the creation of railroads, as well as other means of trans­port and communication, and press. The introduction of the French language which was a means of unifying the colonies and the French Imperialists through communication among the country because it was extremely mixed in language because of the many regions that France had united and as well as a system of administration through­out the country. This unity helped path the way for the growth politics amongst people and ultimately motivated them to over­throw the colonial and imperialist ruler of france. The French colonialism and imperialism was responsible for the introduction of western ideas like nationalism, democracy, constitu­tionalism and other things that they taught/showed the natives in Asia and Africa. The French tried to implant their ideas and institutions in their colonies and thus uncon­sciously let loose liberal forces in the countries of Asia and Africa for example Vietnam and …show more content…

On the positive side which led to develop­ment of industries in Asia and Africa. The various imperialist powers such as France set up industries in their colonies to make profits and thus paved the way for the industrialization of the colonies. The colonial powers established long lines of railways, built banking houses etc. in the colonies to fully exploit their resources. They also set up certain industries in these colonies to make quick profits and fully exploited the resources available there.this proved to be a huge business for the colonies and led to their industrialization. On the negative side, the imperialist powers exploited the colonies by importing raw materials at the cheapest possible rates and exported the finished products at very high
