This discussion question is based on a case study. As in all case studies, review the facts of the case and consider the various steps of the nursing process in order to address the critical thinking questions.

First, we must ask who the stakeholders are when it comes to any nursing program. This is a wide universe, for the stakeholders are many. First, of course, we have instructors at the university level, most of whom have been or are practicing professionals. Then there are the administrators of the program who must continually search out money and grants to keep the program going. We then move into the public sector: patients, families, physicians, support staff at healthcare facilities, healthcare administration, HMOs, private insurers, and governmental agencies (Colvin, et.al., 2008). Each has a role to play within the evaluation process.

There are nine essentials of professional nursing practice that will ensure the professional nurse will be able to practice in complex healthcare systems. The nine essentials are liberal education, basic organizational and systems leadership for quality care and patient safety, scholarship for evidence based practice, information management, health care policy, interprofessional communication and collaboration, clinical prevention, professionalism and baccalaureate generalist nursing practice. These aspects of the baccalaureate education are “essential” for creating a well-rounded nurse able to practice in a variety of settings and provide care for people from “all walks of life.”

Most people would believe that we are shaped and defined by our values and moral character. However, Malcolm Gladwell argues, in the chapter “The Power of Context, Bernie Goetz and the Rise and Fall of New York City Crime” In other words, The Power of Context is the social setting and or the environment around you and how it affects your behavior. Anticipating resistance from the reader Gladwell uses rhetorical strategies such as real life examples, controlled experiments and theories to help advance his claim and to help persuade the reader to side with his argument.

My interest for the Attorney Advisor position with the United States Patent & Trademark Office (USPTO) arises from my longstanding commitment to constantly improve myself. Poor work life balance for gen. y – When gen. y can’t work due to their social life outside of work. The gen. y wanted more flexible working hours instead of wanting to only have to work full-time. The first Framework is care coordination which is a daily practice that is based on assessment of the student and family needs. This Framework is focus on communication to make sure that students whether they have a special care need or not, get the best care in school by using different areas such as, case management, chronic disease management, collaborative communication, direct care, education, interdisciplinary teams, motivational interviewing/counseling, nursing delegation, student care plans, student-centered care, student self-empowerment, and transition planning. The second Framework is leadership, which is a mind-set, not a formal position but is a standard of professional performance for school nursing practice (NASN, 2016). Therefore, as leaders school nurses can be advocates, change agents, education reform, funding and reimbursement specialist, healthcare reform, lifelong learner, models of practice, technologists, policy development and implementation, professionalism, and systems-level leadership. The third Framework is quality improvement which is a continuous and systematic process that leads to measurable improvements and outcomes and is an integral part of current standards of practice (NASN, 2016). School nurses can help with continuous quality improvement, documentation/data collection, evaluation, meaningful health/academic outcomes, performance appraisal, research, and uniform data set. The fourth Framework is community/public health that is grounded in school nursing and is consistent with the core functions of public health. This Framework helps school nurses recognize how they can include community/public health in their specialty practice of school nursing (NASN, 2016). The Nurse of the Future Nursing Core Competencies (NOF Core Competencies) were selected to show the correlation of competency based education and practice partnership. This is being done nationwide so new student nurses would be more prepared with critical thinking and competent learned skills during clinicals. It encourages many nurses to continue their education with some becoming Doctors of Nursing, Nurse Practitioners’, Educators, Managers, and many more specialties.

Improving education and training is one of the strategies to address nursing shortage. Increase in federal funding to compensate current faculties and graduate students faculty is essential in addressing the issues. This will decrease vacancy rates and help to improve workload. Development of a program among regional and statewide nursing schools is another factor to consider. I am not new to the role of nurse or educator, but to the role of nursing educator. My motivation to teach future generations of nurses prompted my transition from a clinical nurse to an academic nurse educator. My interest in teaching comes from my own positive experiences as an undergraduate student and from a love of learning. My educational philosophy is a work in progress as I continue to grow as a nurse, educator, and scholar of nursing education. As a novice nursing educator today, I plan on progressing to the path of an expert. The purpose of this paper is to express my educational philosophy in terms of teaching and learning, teaching and learning strategies, student learning goals, and the learning environment.
