IceMan Essay The “IceMan,” also known as Richard Kuklinski, is a different breed of killer. While he portrayed many similar traits as the other killers we have learned about such as John Wayne Gacy and Jeffrey Dahmer, the iceman had a certain trait that set him apart: no heart or conscience. When watching the interview by American Justice I realized that Kuklinski was aware of what he had done but was neither mad nor disappointed by the things he had done. He is a prime example of someone that would go right back to killing if let out. While this is true, Kuklinski realized that he had hurt his family. He stated that he realized this and it was the only thing he would change. Kuklinski did many things that were worse to set himself apart from the other killers we have learned about.
The first thing that sets Richard Kuklinski apart is the fact that he has no conscience. Over and over again he killed based on the fact he was just told to. When asked in the interview why he killed and if he would if there was no reason to, he said, “yeah, I really did not have a reason to, and I just did it because.” With a slight grin on his face, he said he would kill for no reason. That really shows through as a pure psycho. Even worse than saying he would do it for no reason was when he described some of the times he killed this way. At one point in the interview, the Iceman described one of his most heartless
In the novel In Cold Blood, author Truman Capote delves inside the minds of Perry Smith and Richard “Dick” Hickock, two killers who in one Sunday morning in November, managed to wipe out four members of the Clutter family and in that, signed their own execution warrants. From the day
Murder is the most atrocious crime fathomable, reasons why someone would do such a thing are beyond the understanding of most people, however much too often this horrific act is committed due to a larger and more confusing reason, and that is mental health. Those who suffer from these disorders require more research and a better understanding to fully judge and punish those inflicted by these awful and tormenting ailments. The novel In Cold Blood by Truman Capote depicts the story of two mentally ill men that, due to ailment commit the slaughtering of a family. The story of these men ends with state ordered execution, demonstrating the country's lack of guidance in how to properly punish mental patients.
Sometimes considered disgusting, cruel, terrible, or unforgivable, serial killers could arguably have a reason for their madness. Beaten as a child, raped, or even for left to die could spark what could soon become disastrous. Some serial killers do it for the fun of it, but for the most part they do it because of a poor childhood and upbringing. This is what some believe to be the reasons for the killings done by The Coed Killer, Edmond Kemper. After his conviction of killing ten people, prosecutors then found the real reason of the horrific murders. Seen as a gentle giant by some, Kemper was all but that.
According to the “Hare Psycopathy Checklist” a psychopath is a person who knows right from wrong in our society but often feels no guilt, remorse or empathy when they engage in wrong actions. They lie easily, blame others for their actions and often hurt people who are close to them. David Berkowitz meets the criteria of Hare’s checklist and is believed to be a true psychopath. Berkowitz is known as the “Son of Sam”, a thrill seeking serial killer who terrorized the city of New York for over a year. Information about David Berkowitz’s background, personality traits and lifestyle and his serial killer profile help to prove that he is in fact a psychopath. In conclusion, this essay will prove to readers that David Berkowitz is a notorious
When Jeffrey Dahmer was caught he was automatically remorseful and really sorry, saying things like, “I should have gone to college,” or, “Yes, I do have remorse, but I’m not even sure myself whether it is as profound as it should be. I’ve always wondered myself why I don’t feel more remorse.”
DeMeo was sent to “talk” to Kuklinski and beat him with a pistol. Although Kuklinski was carrying a pistol himself, he decided not to use it, earning him DeMeo’s respect. After paying back the money he owed, Kuklinski began carrying out varied tasks for DeMeo and the Gambino family. One day DeMeo took Richard out to his car and parked on a city street. DeMeo then selected a random target and ordered Kuklinski to kill him. Without hesitating, Kuklinski got out, walked towards the man, and shot him in the back of the head as he passed by. From then on, Kuklinski was DeMeo's favorite enforcer. Over the next thirty years Kuklinski killed numerous people. The police force wasn’t expecting all these murders to be from one man because he used so many different methods of murder. These include guns, knives, explosives, tire irons, fire, poison, asphyxiation, and even bare handed beatings. He favored the use of cyanide since it killed quickly and was hard to detect in a toxicology test. “He would variously administer it by injection, putting it on a person's food, by aerosol spray, or by simply spilling it on the victim's skin. One of his favorite methods of disposing of a body was to place it in an oil drum. His other disposal methods included dismemberment, burial, or placing the body in the trunk of a car and having it crushed in a junkyard.” (Blanco). Kuklinski earned the nickname "Iceman" after he disguised the time of death of his victims by freezing them in
Perry Smith and Dick Hickock were two very different men who came together in one the most renowned and talked about murders in American history. Although the men’s motives were the same, the psychological differences that they experienced after the murders were very different. Smith and Hickock were living testaments to the fact that one’s upbringing really does play a part into the person one will someday become. For Perry, his traumatic family experiences, or lack of them, led him to a psychotic malfunction and for
Even though he is classified serial killer and contract killer he differs from typical serial killers. Unlike your typical serial killer who targets victims with a specific profile and will only target victims with the same specific profile, Mr. Kuklinski did the opposite and his victims were chosen at random. For Kuklinski, killings were only considered business for him and way for him to make money. At no time did he commit murder purposely to seek some type of sexual arousal. Also, he did not kill because he suffered from any psychological dysfunction. Although someone of his kills did occur during the heat of passion, but for the majority of kills that he has accumulated were all hits. In the documentary called The Iceman Confession peers into the life of Richard "the Iceman" Kuklinski. In the HBO documentary on the Kuklinski, the assistant attorney general who prosecuted the
Every serial killer has their own twisted ways to doing their crimes. Richard Kuklinski is no different from other killers in this way. He started young, killing cats and other animals for the fun of it and to feel “empowered”. Different from other killers, he committed his first murder in middle school. Kuklinski beat a bully death and then disposed of it. A lot of their character traits relate back to their young family life. A common pattern in several serial killers is that their parents abused them in some way or the other. Richard Kuklinski, or the “Iceman”, is like these serial killers in the way that he was abused as a young boy. Although there are an uncertain amount of things that led Kuklinski to his brutal, senseless killings, some of the factors stand as: The abuse from his parents, his emotionless personality, and the money he earned from these killings.
In the biography “The Ice Man: Confessions of a Mafia Contract Killer” By Philip Carlo, Richard Kuklinski can be considered a man-made psychopath, as there are thoughts that he was made to be who he was through nurture; such as his family, rather than being born this way. It was often thought Richard could be two different people, the “good Richard” and “bad Richard”. The book explains how Richard lived his life as a contract killer that could be hired for many different Mafia families, as he was not Italian.
What: Ramirez was an American serial killer, rapist and burglar. He had a highly publicized home invasion crime spree in the Los Angeles area and the San Francisco area. He was called the night stalker by the media and used a variety of weapons. He was satanist and never felt bad for any crime. He had 13 death sentences, after having 14 victimes. Serial killers have fascinated the imaginations of people for a long time. One of the most notorious serial killers is Jeffrey Dahmer whose gruesome murders shocked the nation. Jeffrey Lionel Dahmer also known as Milwaukee monster was a notorious American serial killer and sexual offender in the 1980s and early 1990s. Between 1978 and 1991 Dahmer had murdered 17 men. His victims were usually raped, tortured, dismembered, and cannibalism was also involved. Jeffrey was a troubled child psychologically and his social skills had a lot to be desired. All the way through his childhood he was ignored and had queer fantasies of cadavers. In his adulthood this psychosocial status quo didn 't change and was in fact aggravated.
He had different methods of killing but he almost always froze the bodies of his victims, earning him the nick name “The Ice Man”. For many years he was a top mafia hit man, murderer and torturer. At the age of 10, Richard began killing cats, stabbing them, making them fight each other and even burning them alive. He committed his first murder at 14 by killing the leader of a small neighborhood hang that had bullied him.
After developing a fascination for the mindset of criminals at an early age, two cases that I personally found most gripping were those of the infamous Jeffrey Dahmer and Dennis Nilsen. Like most people in the UK, I too am familiar with the crimes of Nilsen, the Scottish serial killer well known for forming sexual relationships with his victims. Albeit the second serial killer is less well known in Britain, Jeffrey Dahmer is a household name in USA and became particularly famous for cannibalising and sodomising his latter victims.
He wasn't in the habit of picking up anyone, period. But tonight had found him a little emptier than usual, and for once, he hadn't been able to fill up that emptiness with more work, more plans, more books -- all his usual distractions had irritated rather than soothed him. Under the circumstances, Kurapika should have gone to bed -- when all else failed, there was always sleep -- but the thought of lying in the dark with cold sheets pressed up against his skin, nothing but his thoughts and ghosts of his kin to keep him company, his life so far from where he'd started...it had been too much. Suddenly Kurapika had to get out, before the weight of it all crushed him.
