Communication is an essential tool in our daily lives. We use it to convey ideas, share information, and persuade others. However, not all communication is created equal. Propaganda,
argumentation, and persuasion are three distinct forms of communication that differ in their goals, techniques, and ethical considerations. Propaganda: Anti-Vaccination Campaign
Propaganda is the deliberate spread of information, ideas, or opinions to influence or manipulate public opinion toward a particular cause or agenda (Jowett & O’Donnell, 2018). The anti-vaccination campaign is an example of propaganda that is commonly seen in recent times. The anti-vaccination campaign is a form of propaganda because it disseminates misleading information about the safety and efficacy of vaccines, intending to dissuade people from getting vaccinated. This campaign relies on emotional appeals, anecdotal evidence, and misinformation to create fear and uncertainty among the public about vaccines (Vandewater, 2020).
For instance, anti-vaccination advocates often use emotional appeals to persuade people against vaccination. They create a narrative that portrays vaccines as dangerous and harmful to human health. Personal stories of people who claim to have suffered adverse reactions after getting vaccinated often reinforce this message through anecdotal evidence. Anti-vaccination advocates use these stories to create a sense of fear and mistrust towards vaccines, which they argue are not worth the risk.
Therefore, this campaign is not based on sound scientific evidence and is not a form of argumentation or persuasion.

Anti-vaccination propaganda has harmed public health by spreading false information and reducing vaccination rates. This has led to outbreaks of preventable diseases such as measles, mumps, and rubella in many parts of the world. It is essential for the public to be aware of the propaganda techniques used by anti-vaccination advocates and to seek accurate information from reliable sources.
Argumentation: The Case for Renewable Energy
An example of argumentation can be found in a report by the International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA) on the economic benefits of renewable energy (IRENA, 2017). The IRENA report shows a detailed study of renewable energy. The IRENA report supports its claims using various argumentative techniques, such as statistical analysis, expert testimony, and
logical reasoning.
For instance, the report cites data showing that renewable energy has become increasingly cost-competitive with fossil fuels and that the costs of renewable energy technologies are expected to continue to decline. It also cites expert testimony from leading economists and energy experts who argue that the transition to renewable energy is necessary to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and slow the impacts of climate change.
This report is an excellent example of argumentation because it uses sound evidence and logical reasoning to support its claims. The report does not rely on emotional appeals or propaganda techniques to convince readers of its argument. Instead, it presents a clear and
