The power elite refers to a small group of individuals who hold significant influence and control in society. They often include individuals who hold significant influence in society. These individuals can be political leaders, corporate executives and member of the upper class like celebrities. This group has had disproportionate amount of power and decision making authority which can positively or negatively affect society. Wilson states "The power elite is composed of men whose positions enable them to transcend the ordinary environments of ordinary men and women". (Macionis & Benokraitis, pg. 306). No, I do not believe America is alone in having power elite. Many countires around the world have their own power elites. The concept exists globally, consisting of influential individuals who hold significant control. I believe America is in it's own category when it comes to the power of elites than other countries but I do also believe that there are other countries around the globe that have people is higher power positions and elites that control the decisions of society. The concept of power elites could very well vary across different countries and cultures. While there may be similarities in terms of influential individuals holding power. the specific composition and dynamics of power elites can differ. Many factors may play a role such as political systems, economic structures, and social norms can shape the nature of power elites in each country. After reading Wilsons chapter of the power elites, i believe it is important to consider the unique contexts and histories of different nations when examining power structures.
