Determine the amount of work required to compressed 1.5 kg of air at a pressure of 7 barg. The isentropic index is 1.2 and the air intake is at 1 bar, 20 degree celsius and Relative Humidity =65%. i) Find the temperature at the end of the compression. ii) Represent the above process on a p‐v diagram. iii) If the isentropic efficiency is 65%, find the indicated or real work. iv) Find the shaft work needed if the mechanical efficiency is 75%.

Determine the amount of work required to compressed 1.5 kg of air at a pressure of 7 barg. The isentropic index is 1.2 and the air intake is at 1 bar, 20 degree celsius and Relative Humidity =65%.
i) Find the temperature at the end of the compression.
ii) Represent the above process on a p‐v diagram.
iii) If the isentropic efficiency is 65%, find the indicated or real work.
iv) Find the shaft work needed if the mechanical efficiency is 75%.

b)The discharged air is passed through an R134a refrigerant dryer, the temperature of the air coming out the dryer is 40 degree celcius.
The air then settles inside a reservoir at a temperature of 25 degree celcius.
Determine:
(i) The humidity variation throughout the production of compressed air
(ii) The amount of condensate formed at each stage of the process by using The humidity definition
(iii) The amount of condensate formed at each stage of the process by using the Atlas‐copco simplified formula, Compare your results.
(iv) If the system is in operation 8 hrs per day, 7 days a week; find the amount of condensate produced for a year.
