World War 2 : The Good War

People go into war for countless reasons; however, power remains as one of the main factors of war. Wanting to have more power over the world can lead to a global conflict. By the end of the first world war, the Treaty of Versailles kept peace in Europe until Hitler of Germany began violating its contracts. Thus, began World War II that corrected the evil of Hitler with a justifiable cause. Although the second World War brought many casualties, World War II resulted as a justifiable war because it saved nations from German exploitation, began as a last resort after all forms of appeasement failed, and brought the German powers to an unconditional surrender.

I believe that World War II was a continuation of World War I because of some not resolved issues. Hitler violated the Treaty of Versailles by expanding the military and invading Poland. One of the events that led to the beginning of World War 1 was: Militarism, Alliances, Imperialism, and Nationalism; which stands for MAIN. Austria-Hungary declared war on Serbia but they then joined up with Russia. After, Germany declared war on Russia which caused the war to expand. World War I ended in 1918 when Germany surrendered. It also had a great impact on European countries after it ended.

Undoubtedly, humanity and modern civilization would have never reached their current form with the research. Research is the key element behind any type of evolution and progress. Contemporary, broadly established theories, varying from the understanding of the universe to the revelation of human evolution, are the result of valuable innovations in different fields of science and technology. Every day life has been simplified due to the constant advance of knowledge and discoveries. However, none of this would be possible without constant research. In his book The Best War Ever: America and World War II, Michael Adams tries to dissolve the many misconceptions of World War II. As the title of the book implies, The United States left the war with a great optimistic view of the these “glorious” five years. The United States as a population had been tricked into believing in the, at times, fabricated conditions of its history that had been presented to people as some beautiful stories and myths where nations are viewed as being first-rate in union and morality. These so-called myths were created out of several factors. Because of Hollywood, the vast amounts of government propaganda, and far-reaching economic prosperity, Americans were, for the most part, hidden from the real truth of The Second World War. In this period of time, even, the generation of the Second World War is seen as being top-notch in morality and unity. There was a popular misconception held that there were no problems in terms of ethnicity or gender; it seemed that families were living contented lives and children excelled in school and read all kinds of books (115).

Because of the alliances created, the Germans were defeated, preventing further domination over the European nation by Hitler. People once under the ruling of colonization regained their independence and the right to rule themselves. When the men were off fighting the war, there was a need for employees to take over the jobs that the men had to do. The emergence of women in the work field served as a catalyst for major events that would take place later on, like the Civil Rights Movement. The idea of “what it means to be a woman” in American society was put to the test, and throughout the war, women would have to constantly fight for their place in society; and the work force. The question arises, “was World War II a good war?” The previously stated question can be answered in a number of ways; race and ethnicity often had a hand in what jobs women could do, and social class also had an impact on what job position women had and how much money they would earn. The vast majority of Americans supported World War II (WWII) after Pearl Harbor was bombed, recognizing a fascist threat to Western democracy. WWII was a good war. It had the ability to unite America. They united against Nazism and fascism. But even a good War has its bad times. If you look behind what you think happened at what really happened in WWII it becomes clear that the U.S. has nothing to be proud about.

While world war two was happening, we were fighting against Germany, Italy, and Japan or the Axis Powers. The United States got pulled into the war because of Japan attacking Hawaii at Pearl Harbor killing 2335 Americans. The United States wanted to stay neutral from the war and not be involved at all until they were directly attacked or threatened. After the attack, most of America wanted to go to war with Japan, and going to war with Japan also meant we would have to go to war with Italy, and Germany since they were in an alliance.

World War two is remembered as the Good War, but like most wars, mobilization of the patriotic public opinion is necessary . Advertisers came up with a series of mottos to help sell World War Two to the people: One of the major words being “freedom” . The war was supposed to protect Americans freedom, use honorable means, and bring freedom to foreign nations but that’s not exactly what it did. When people think of WW2 as the Good War, many memories of the war are being left out. World War Two was not a Good War in the least bit.

World War II was a unique time in American History. World War II represented the best and the worst that the world has to offer. The atrocities committed by the Axis forces were deplorable actions that would require an astonishing amount of coordination and teamwork on the part of the Allied forces. Hitler, with his insatiable desire to spread his vision of Arian supremacy across the world, resulted in the United States and their European Allies engaging in a War that the fate of the world depended on. As a result of the severity and high stakes nature of World War II the United States would be forced to cooperate with any and all resources available to them, even if it means collaborating with a different enemy, The Mafia.

In conclusion, this reason shows why WWII was not a good war. The cost of WWII was enormous, the aggregate expense was more than 1.1 trillion dollars then, which is 11 trillion in today’s money. WWII did nothing more than bring debt into every country that involves. It cost $341 billion for American, $272billion for Germany, $192 billion for the Soviet Union, $120 billion for Britain, $94 billion for Italy, and Japan $56 billion in then money. WWII cause the loss of jobs, men in war have to go back and work to make money for their family right away, also due to the Great Depression, individuals turn out to be less wealthy or considerably more poor since they have to pay the debts.
