Abortion has taken the lives of more than 50 million babies since 1973 (“About Abortion”). The issue of abortion is one of the most common controversial issues in American politics and culture. In modern society, many women that have an unintended pregnancy and they result to abortion without researching other options. Abortion is not a substitute for birth control and this issue should be taken seriously. The individual woman needs to understand that by agreeing to have an abortion she is agreeing to kill an innocent fetus. Abortion rips the unborn child from his or hers right to life. Every 3 minutes, 9 innocent babies will have been aborted in the U.S. alone. Approximately 93% of women state they have abortions due to ‘social reasons’(inconvenient, unwanted), and less than 1% of abortions occur due to rape/incest. On behalf of the decision of the Roe v. Wade ruling, which made abortion legal during all nine months of pregnancy in 1973, there have been 56,993,299 documented abortions. “In 2000 [alone], more children died from abortion than Americans died in the Revolutionary War, the Civil War, World Wars I and II, the Korean, Vietnam, and Gulf Wars combined” (“Abortion Statistics”). Being pro-life should be the only option for women due to homicide, health risks, and the violation of civil and human rights.

According to the article “Are Abortion Rights Threatened, 2013” over fifty million infants, died in 2012 before they even stepped foot into this world, due to abortion. To clarify abortion is the termination of the fetus in the mother’s womb typically by chopping up the baby into pieces with a knife, cracking its skull and vacuuming out its brains, or with the drug RU-486. As a result, abortion is one of the most common and cruel cause of death in the United States, yet the government has legalized this practice. Moreover, there are other measures that can be taken if a women feels she needs an abortion including adoption and financial aid. Believe it or not, women were not always entitled to abortion. Until 1973, when it became legalized, women would terminate their pregnancies through dangerous methods. Some included back alley abortions or at home procedures. Unfortunately, most of these ended in complete disaster, leaving women injured or needing medical attention. Since abortion was an unsafe option overall, it seems that women would stop fighting for the cause, but despite the potential peril they continued their fight. The idea that abortion creates emotional scars and is a risk to women's health, is what troubles many young adults considering it.

Those who are pro-life believe that life begins at conception, making abortion a murder of an innocent human being. Many pro-life activists who are religious refer to the Sixth Commandment “thou shall not kill.” They view the fetus as an unborn baby with a fundamental right to live. Furthermore, those who do not condone abortion argue that no civil society permits the harm of another human being. If the fetus is considered as an unborn baby, how can society allow it to be murdered? On the other hand, those who are pro-choice believe that life begins at birth, not at conception. The majority of abortions take place when the fetus cannot exist independently, thus making it impossible to refer to the fetus as a separate entity outside of the mothers womb. The sound of a tiny heartbeat fills the room. There is so much tension in the air. In the year 2012 there were 699,202 reported abortions that occurred in America. An abortion is “the removal of an embryo or fetus from the uterus in order to end a pregnancy” (Abortion). This is a very sensitive and controversial topic for most of the population in the United States. Some people believe that abortion is a woman’s choice and she has the right to choose, because it is her body. However, an abundant amount of Americans see a different side of this controversial topic. They view it is as murder. They believe life starts at conception so the unborn babies are humans with a right to live.

This indicate how women still had abortions to abort unplanned pregnancy but the outcome was negative. Women could not bear the pain and health issues that pregnancy caused them so therefore, they took it amongst themselves. In this period of time abortions were illegal and there was no way around it but to deal with the situation. In comparison, “after Roe, death and injuries from abortion declined dramatically, and today, only a handful of women in the United States die each year from complications of legal abortion” (Joffe 2013, 54). No one is pro abortion or a pro abort; no one actively wants a woman or all women to have an abortion. Although I do suppose we have those nutcases running around who do but keep in mind they are nutcases. Forcing a woman to have an abortion against her will is a cruel despicable act, however it is just as cruel if not more so to force a woman to carry a pregnancy to term as it is to force her to have an abortion. An undesired pregnancy is tough enough to deal with but then to amp it up and take couples or a single woman’s option away is just inhumane. That being said the only possible position a decent human could take is pro-choice. Therefore excluding the barbaric nutty exceptions we all believe the woman carrying the child should have the choice of what she wishes to do with said child. Whether you would like to influence her to think to your liking, you know in the end legally it is her “choice”. But is it really her choice?

Why do women get abortions? This question is very hard to answer but their maybe reasons behind this. Many women have their own reasons as to why they choose to get an abortion or if they choose not to. Even though abortion is legalized, their are many questions as to if they should still keep it legalized or make it illegal.  Most women faced with this situation, tend to go against abortion. Many women believe that this is not the right thing to do and should go against it. (Frick) Research has stated that their has been a decrease in the amount of abortions, but it still shows a large amount annually. Their are several things that can be done to decrease abortion but it just needs the cooperation from everyone.

Many women may get pregnant at a time of their life where they may not be able to take care of a child. An option for these women is to give their child up for adoption or to have an abortion. Everyone has a different opinion on abortions whether or not it’s the right or wrong thing to do.” Every single day silent deaths are happening amongst Americans. Every single year, this silent horror kills about as many Americans as have been killed on all the battlefields in all of the wars in U.S. history combined (Snyder, 2012)”.

Pregnancy can be either wonderful, or terrifying. Complications result in miscarriages and deaths every day, and the weight of that knowledge can drown any expectant mothers joy in anxiety. Fear for the life that the child will lead, or even fear of how the child was conceived can send many to the abortion clinic or the nearest hospital that provides this procedure. However, many women who choose to end their child’s life may not realize the pain they are putting themselves through, and the alternatives they can take instead of this life-altering decision to throw away the person growing inside them. Something needs to be done, and in order for more children to live as they were meant to, abortions need to be limited and regulated in order

Many different social issues divide our world. The diversity over the issue of abortion is loud and glaring. Like the hormones that battle within a pregnant woman’s body, so do the warring sides of abortion influence all of humanity. Many of the components that are argued over include the positions opposing sides hold on the matter, the definition of what abortion truly is, along with the physical and mental effects abortion has on women. Today’s society has made abortion far more ethically and legally acceptable than the elimination of another human life should be.

Today in American an overwhelming amount of human lives are terminated through abortion. Many women today are getting pregnant often through unprotected sex, rape and other things. Once these women realize that they don’t want the child because of various reasons, they result to the method of abortion. After researching for countless hours what I found was disturbing. I oppose abortion because it is considered murder in some aspects; there safer approaches to this situation such as adoption, being responsible and not having unprotected sex, and considering foster care. Sadly, most women choose to have an abortion and are unaware of the dangers and consequences they may come across. Abortions have affected many people and their families. “In 2011, approximately 1.06 million abortions took place in the U.S.”.

We, as humans living in 2017, shouldn’t have to go back to the dark ages of when abortion was illegal, and the fatality rate of unsafe abortions was higher than child birth. In the 1950s, [8] “about a million illegal abortions a year were performed in the U.S., and over a thousand women died each year as a result”. Women who were victims of botched or unsanitary abortions came in desperation to hospital emergency wards, where some died of widespread abdominal infections.
