All of the definitions that the author has presented tend to share a common theme. In each of the previous definitions, the use of force that is intended to coerce or sway a course of action that furthers a social, or political goal. In most cases, the FBI definition is the one most widely used and accepted by law enforcement entities (National Institute of Justice). The author seconds that the FBI definition is the one that she agrees with the most. The FBI definition seems like the only one that doesn’t leave anything out. It is the most descriptive, and unlike the American Heritage definition, it broadens the scope of terrorists from being a certain type of group to the possibility of it being just one man or woman.
The Pakistani government was involved in an attack on Mumbai that killed over one hundred and fifty people. The captured militants who executed the attack were never brought to proper justice, an incarcerated terrorist confessed that Pakistan’s Inter-Services Intelligence agency aided the attack, and the Pakistani government freed the militant group’s commander for no plausible reason. Pakistan has denied all accusations of its’ involvement but evidence shows that they played a key role in this devastating siege.
The United States has not been able to eradicate the Taliban in Afghanistan because of two main reasons: the corruption within the Afghan security forces and the Pakistani government 's support of the Afghan Taliban. Internal to the country, the corrupt practices of the Afghan Army leaders and police officials include selling American-issued weapons and ammunition to the Taliban insurgents. The corruption results in members of the Taliban to remain strong and well equipped with American weapons and ammunitions. External factor, the government of Pakistan (ISI –Inter-Service Intelligence) or army intelligence supports the Afghan Taliban by financing their military operations, training them and providing sanctuary for members of the Taliban. For these two reasons which will be addressed with details, America has not been able to defeat the Taliban insurgent group in Afghanistan since 2001.
The U.S. State Department defines terrorism, according to Piazza (2006), “premeditated, politically motivated violence perpetrated against noncombatant targets by sub national groups or clandestine agents, usually intended to influence an audience” (p. 165). Throughout history, labor disputes have often been accompanied by terror and resistance movements. Terrorism dates way back in history, but political terrorism only dates back to the last century and is regarded as a new phenomenon. For example, Afghanistan has seen conflict since it was created as a county. The most notable is the terror of the terrorist group the Taliban. The Taliban rose to power when commanders imposed heavy costs on trades between Pakistan and Afghanistan. Many people had to adapt to the high risk environment created by the commanders and this spurred the acts of violence. Today conflict is evident throughout the country. What is the cause of modern political terrorism? There are many schools of thought on why a modern country will experience terrorism. In this paper I focus on the theory of a poor economy fueling acts of terror and the different schools of thoughts that focus on this subject. An economy is influenced by many categories. Many of these categories, such as the gap between wealthy and poor, economic and resource distribution, socioeconomic status, employment, and social welfare and policy all account for a country’s economy. When there is poor performance in these areas the country
The Central Intelligence Agency defines terrorism as “premeditated, politically motivated violence perpetrated against noncombatant targets by subnational groups or clandestine agents” (CIA). This term was specifically created to differentiate terrorism between other acts of violence. These doings of terrorism are not just any act but are specific acts of violence. A dominant reason behind terrorism tends to fall upon religious beliefs and culture ties.
Terrorism is the systematic use of violence and intimidation in the pursuit of the political aims. The events that have occurred in the 1700's turned the patriots into a party of rebels that began sending alarming threats to the colonists and the King.
The Taliban is an Afghani and Pakistani terrorist group. They are a large organization, with a religious base. The group, like several other terrorist organizations, have extremist views in relation to Islam. They operate primarily in the Middle East, but also operate elsewhere in the world. In this paper the focus will be on the Taliban’s relationship with the world outside of their comfort zone.
Any gathering of people can be a potential target for someone or some group. This is nothing new however. It has as happened for centuries and will continue to happen. The definition of terrorism is to use violence and threats to intimidate or to coerce others, particularly for political purposes.
Terrorism can be defined as the use of violence with political intent that causes more psychological damage than physical. This definition is debated among scholars as well as nations. The United Nations definition does not necessarily fit the same description as every country on the globe. The United State has committed acts of terrorism onto other countries as well as its own citizens. Historically some of the largest world conflicts arise with events considered strategic warfare. Necessary actions that ensure the survival of democracy. This however will discuss events considered especially heinous.
Terrorism is defined as the calculated use of violence against civilians in order to attain goals that are political or religious or ideological in nature. “History shows, furthermore, that terrorism was by no means the exclusive domain of the revolutionary left and that it had been exercised at least as often by the extreme right fascist, or proto-fascist movements” (Laqueur 10). Terrorism dates back as far as we can remember, but it has been so spread throughout history and not always active that the idea was frequently ignored. As it pops up again and again throughout history people have a, “tendency to regard it as a new phenomenon” (Laqueur 7), because it would be so inactive for long periods of time. The Taliban rose up from Mujahedeen groups that came from villages in southern Qandahar and refugee camps in Pakistan. “Hit operations, military ambushes, bombings, secret kidnappings, and terrorism became a routine part of some Mujahedeen groups” (Nojumi 26). These tactics eventually led to the Taliban taking control of the Afghan government. The political rise of the Taliban was regarded as a phenomenon. While in control the Taliban created a Transit Treaty between Pakistan and Afghanistan. Under this treaty an illegal smuggling network was established. This illegal network created an artificial system that could never establish a stable national economy. “The poor economic condition of the country and the unstable economic condition would cause further political
After 9/11 and joining Pakistan the war on terror, there has been a significant deterioration in the security situation in Pakistan . The term militant can be described as followers of group or religion or a party who aggressively and violently promote an idea in the name of a movement (and many a times have an extreme approach to solution for their goal). The various movements that seek to apply militancy as a solution, or who use militancy to rationalize their solutions for issues in the modern world, seldom share common tactics. Militant groups may use force or violence directly, either to defend themselves or otherwise and have justifications for the use of force using the ideological expression of their particular

They have stated that their security covers all areas of nuclear security and is an updated version of their previous security system. Pakistan says they have created nuclear portals which monitor trafficking nuclear weapons. While Pakistan has made claims, specific examples show their system has it’s flaws and does not deserve the credibility they have asked for. Chashma-Kundian, and Wah Cantonment are nuclear facilities located near Taliban controlled areas. Each nuclear facility is at risk of being attacked. Wah Cantonment has already faced numerous suicide bombings. Terrorist factions in Pakistan are a particular threat because they are the fastest growing in the region. One particular group, the Tehrik-e Taliban are collectively made up of around forty jihadist organizations. The Tehrik-e Taliban are said to be linked to the Afghan Taliban and insist on the need to fight the U.S. In a statement made by the Director of U.S. Intelligence, Mike McConnell, he said, “In the last year, the number of terrorist attacks and deaths were greater than the last six years combined.” Since Benazir Bhutto, former prime mister of Pakistan was assassinated; terrorist activity has increased because they share a border with the jihadists
Pakistan by virtue of its geographic location started its international collaborated in 1990s during the Afghan war. After the war ended, it had to face the post war consequences as a burden of more than 3 million Afghan refugees, ever growing drug trade in neighborhood as well as Federally Administered Tribal Areas (FATA) of Pakistan. Indeed the militia which fought against erstwhile USSR in Afghanistan was abruptly abandoned who found safe haven along Pakistan Afghan borders. After 9/11 the situation got complicated, Pakistan was to be fighting against those who were once trained in collaboration with CIA. Despite worst domestic pressures, Pakistan continued its commitment to international community in its counter terrorism efforts.
