The Importance Of Motivation In Educational Psychology

Making connections to current knowledge as I learn new concepts.
Using reason to determine what notes to take in class.
Using memory and problem-solving skills to determine a course of action regarding an assignment.
Processing information that is presented.
Analyzing and reorganizing notes that I took in class.

Observing different note-taking techniques, processing that information, and eventually changing my note-taking behavior based on that knowledge.
Realizing that procrastination is causing me unnecessary stress and changing my behavior to eliminate that stress.

Motivation can consist of internal and external motivators. Internal motivators are the more powerful of the two because they are controllable and come from within.
Motivation is the reason why we decide to act and affects our behavior.

The field of Educational Psychology attempts to find effective methods for motivation to help improve learning outcomes for students.
An example of this can be found in a journal article, in which researchers studied the effects on students who were told stories of famous scientists’ failures, as opposed to those who were told stories of famous scientists’ successes. This made the stories more relatable, thus improving the students’ motivation (Lin-Siegler, Ahn, Chen, Fang, & Luna-Lucero, 2016).

Envisioning a better future for my family because of my educational success.
Setting personal goals such as staying ahead of school assignments and striving to achieve said goals.
