The Great Gatsby

Tom, Nick and Jordan are driving home when at Wilson's garage they come to find that Myrtle has been hit and killed by a yellow car. Tom immediately knows that it is Gatsby who was driving the car and seeks revenge. What he does not know is that the actual driver was Daisy. Gatsby does not tell anyone but Nick that Daisy was driving the car because he does not want anything bad to happen to her. This shows how much he truly cares for Daisy. It also shows that by not letting anyone else know the truth regarding the accident that Gatsby will only trust key people. This trust issue causes many problems for Gatsby and others.

In the book, The Great Gatsby by F. Scott Fitzgerald, Nick calls Jay Gatsby “great” because that is how Nick and a bunch of other people see him. Everyone seems to know the name Jay Gatsby. Jay Gatsby lives a life that about anyone would want to live in, because he has a lot of money, and before his death wins back the girl of his dreams. But there are also some ways where Gatsby is not so “great.”

The Great Gatsby is too concerned with conveying a picture of 1920s American society to have relevance to modern readers.

The novel “The Great Gatsby” by F. Scott Fitzgerald is a riveting tale full of deception and love triangles. The main character, Jay Gatsby, ends up getting the short end of the stick. You would assume that being an extremely rich man would protect Gatsby from the destructive people around him, but it does not. In the end, Tom Buchanan manages to take everything from him, causing this story to not have a happy ending.

In the novel, The Great Gatsby, Gatsby is seen as a mysterious character that’s not called great or bad. The Great Gatsby takes place in the 1920’s during the “roaring twenties” or called as the “Jazz Age”, a period ending the Great Depression and an era where jazz and dancing become trendy. Gatsby does not seem to be fit to be called “great”, instead he is fit for being called a determined man. Some may not call Gatsby “great” because of his lies and some will call him “great” because he is a man who is determined to get Daisy back from Tom or because Gatsby is a nice man who does not have much ignorance like Tom. An example why Gatsby do not deserve to be called a “great” man is because he is a liar and a “great” man does not

I know he would of hoped more people of come because of all the parties and people he knew, the good and the bad ones also. He told so many lies about his whole life. In Jack Clayton's film adaptation of The Great Gatsby by F. Scott Fitzgerald, the director uses several visual techniques to emphasize and heighten the illusion of the American dream. These visual techniques include: Framing, color, lighting & space.

With the help of Nick and Jordan Baker, who is Gatsby and Daisy’s friend and Nick’s ex-girlfriend, Gatsby tries to set up a gathering for everyone including Tom who is Daisy’s current husband. He wants to prove to everyone that Daisy still loves him like he still loves her, and makes her decide who she wants to be with in front of everyone. In a position like this, Daisy becomes very indecisive and makes her statements and decisions very unclear. Out of the uncomfortable atmosphere and pressure she’s in, she quickly storms off and drives away and Gatsby follows. On the way back as Daisy is driving, she hit a woman named Myrtle Wilson. Scared, Daisy tells Gatsby that she wants to be alone. Out of love, Gatsby tells Nick last minute that he is willing to take the blame for Daisy and wishes that Nick delivers the message that Gatsby will come by again to pick up Daisy so that they can runaway together and disappear from society. Before that happens, George Wilson appears behind Gatsby with a gun in his hand only to avenge his wife’s death. Shot in the back, Gatsby falls into his pool and the death of Gatsby forever scars Nick as he realizes much of his society. As Nick sets up Gatsby’s funeral, he witnesses that only few showed up to see Gatsby even though he has hundreds of guests who attends his party. Nick desperately tries to reach out to Daisy so that she can see Gatsby one last time,

The main characters in both F. Scott Fitzgerald's The Great Gatsby and William Shakespeare's Macbeth appear stable and successful on the outside, but inside they are engaged in a constant struggle with their dreams. Gatsby tries to win back the girl of his dreams by becoming something he's not, a member of high society; while Macbeth believes the prediction of the witches that he will be king and spends his life trying to make it come true. Both characters are willing to risk everything in pursuit of their respective dreams, including committing crimes. Both are motivated to take these risks by a woman. And both inevitably suffer premature demises.

After the funeral Nick tells Jordan that he didn’t want to see her anymore and that he is moving away. He later moves back to Midwest to escape the pain and sorrow of the death of a close friend. Nick starts to put two and two together and realize that money and disloyalty corrupted Tom’s and Daisy’s marriage which lead to Myrtle, Jay and Myrtle husband death. Three young people who didn’t deserve to die. Nick realizes that Gatsby is in love neither with Daisy nor with love itself, but rather with a moment out of time that he persuades himself he shared with Daisy.

He encounters Jordan Baker at the party, and they meet Gatsby himself, a surprisingly young man who affects an English accent, has a remarkable smile, and calls everyone “old sport.” Gatsby asks to speak to Jordan alone, and, through Jordan, Nick later learns more about his mysterious neighbor. Gatsby tells Jordan that he knew Daisy in Louisville in 1917 and is deeply in love with her. He spends many nights staring at the green light at the end of her dock, across the bay from his mansion. Gatsby’s extravagant lifestyle and wild parties are simply an attempt to impress Daisy. Gatsby now wants Nick to arrange a reunion between himself and Daisy, but he is afraid that Daisy will refuse to see him if she knows that he still loves her. Nick invites Daisy to have tea at his house, without telling her that Gatsby will also be there. After an initially awkward reunion, Gatsby and Daisy reestablish their connection.
