In order to provide a comprehensive school counseling program (CSCP) that meets the unique needs of Ocean Elementary School, the school counselor must understand the needs of the school. Therefore, conducting a needs assessment can help a new school counselor to evaluate the CSCP in order to plan, implement, and improve the effectiveness of the program (Astramovich & Coker, 2007). Additionally, utilizing the accountability bridge counseling program evaluation model, a continuous evaluation cycle helps to improve services based on stakeholder feedback, the needs of those served, and outcomes (Astramovich & Coker, 2007). Within this model, a needs assessment must be conducted in order to plan and develop services that address the needs of the students (Astramovich & Coker, 2007). Thus, by utilizing assessment questionnaires, the school counselor can gather information from the diverse population of students, parents, teachers, and administrator to determine how the CSCP can best support all students’ needs (American School Counselor Association [ASCA], 2012). Additionally, the use of other data, such as observations, standardized test scores, absentee rates, and student referrals can support the feedback received on the questionnaires. An important factor on whether a study can be considered valuable is if it is transferable in other situation, that is, a study's results should also be reflective if duplicated on other samples (Polit & Beck, 2006). Thus, the statistical power, internal and external validity are important to observe and note (Polit & Beck). If this writer were to carry out this study, it would have to be reflective of how the researcher performed it originality.

It takes a special person to become a school counselor and in doing so it is important to take those life skills, knowledge, dispositions, and background experiences to help along the way. In the counseling field there are some guidelines and theories that will help, but nothing that prepares you for what may happen at any moment or any time during the day. It is clear that life definitely throws some unexpected curve balls and that is the same for situations in the field of school counseling. You never know what situation you will run into and in order to dodge those curve balls it is those life experiences that often time influence the direction in which we take both personally and professionally. It is important to compile all the knowledge and experiences that we have gained throughout life and apply them in a way that will help others to be successful. It is key to reflect on the past and those skills that I have that will lead me to become an effective professional school counselors.

After I completed the IIR, I thought it would be beneficial to review the MCGCP in order to determine what areas are most important. After reviewing the MCGCP, it appears as though the top priorities at the middle school level include system support and guidance curriculum. These two areas are where middle school counselors should spend the most time on and allocate the most resources for. My site scored fairly decently in these areas, earning scores of 86% and 87% respectively. The purpose of this research paper is to create a group therapy model for adolescents who engage in substance abuse. By using literature and already tested models of group therapy, the goal is create a hybrid of those models while taking out what does not work. The need for this type of group therapy model is evident in the facts about adolescents and substance abuse. A comprehensive school counseling program is needed to function effectively in the service of children with respect to race, gender, age, socioeconomic status, social/personal development and academics. With a paradigm shift in how counselors respond to students, the focus has turned from what Bowers calls “entitlement to performance.” In an effort to implement a comprehensive program this high school has been identified as a candidate This high school has an enrollment of approximately 2000 students; 49% white , 32% black, 10% Hispanic, 5.4% Asian or Island Pacific, 3% Multi racial and .6% Native American. Malique is a bright student that loves to play games and draw. I noticed that Malique struggles with pronouncing his words, which impacts his ability to communicate effective with peers and adults. In group counseling with another kindergarten student, Malique is asked to repeat his statement numerous time. When Malique repeats himself, he appears frustrated and say never mind. In team work activities, Malique work well with his peers, however in a group conversation, Malique repsonses does not reflect the content of the conversation.

Ninth grade is a transitional year for students during their high school matriculation. The objective of this study is to determine the effects of counseling services embedded during the school day among 9th grade students who have problematic behaviors. The hypothesis is that over the duration of one school year, students who are taught life skills and coping strategies will result in behavior modification changes.
