Roughly 2,753 people were killed on September 11, 2001, by terrorists who overtook commercial airplanes (Jones). The cause of these thousands of deaths were a series of attacks in New York City by an Islamic terrorist group, Al-Qaeda. However, there are still many questions about what actually happened the morning of September 11, 2001. As there are many different conspiracy theories about what happened that day, 9/11 was an attack which began with Al- Qaeda hi-jacking airplanes, but ended with more questions than answers. Many questions still remain about the authenticity of cell phone calls from inside the planes, why air defense was told to “stand down,” and how three buildings imploded as the result of two buildings being struck by airplanes.

On September 11, 2001 the World Trade Center buildings one and two were attacked. However, who we were attacked by and even if we were attacked is a hard decision to make. There have been many different claims about how everything on that fateful day happened. There are facts that we know are true, though; Flight 11 flew into the North Tower at eight forty- six in the morning. Soon after, Flight 175 attacked the South Tower. By the end of the day, both towers had collapsed and other hijacked flights had caused damage. The amount of lives lost on September 11 was substantial; 2,749 people from eighty-three different countries died from the attacks (Facts about the attacks…, n.d.). All in all, America was changed forever.

On September 11th, 2001, the worst terror attack on US soil took place. 19 people associated with the Islamic extremist group al-Qaeda took 4 airplanes and carried out suicide to kill people in the United States. Two of the planes hit the World Trade Center, another plan hit the pentagon just outside Washington, D.C, and the fourth plane crashed in a field in Pennsylvania. These attacks caused massive destruction, forcing the U.S to combat terrorism and “defining the presidency of George W. On September 11, 2001, an event known as 9/11 occurred. An Islamic extremist group, Al-Qaeda, hijacked four planes to carry out suicide missions against several targets in the United States. They attacked the World. Trade Center in New York City with two planes, The Pentagon near Washington DC, and the other crashed in a field in Pennsylvania. The attacks are significant to US history because it alerted the country to the vulnerability of our way of life, and to the anger, bitterness and. resentment toward the U.S. by other countries in the world, especially in parts of the Islamic world.

September 11th, 2001 was a very traumatic time for the United States. On that day planes were hijacked and flown into the World Trade Center and caused the Twin Towers to collapse (“11 Facts”). Along with the Twin Towers collapsing, the Pentagon building in Washington, DC was hit with a plane and another plane crashed down near Shanksville, Pennsylvania (“11 Facts”). Before 9/11 no civilian ever expected or thought of a terrorist attack would occur at the World Trade Center in New York and the Pentagon in Virginia. On September 11, 2001, an Islamic extremist group called al-Qaeda, hijacked four airliners and performed multiple suicide attacks. The first two airliners were flown into the twin towers of the World Trade Center, the third hit the Pentagon, and the last airliner crashed in Pennsylvania as a result of the passengers fighting back against the terrorists. On the morning of September 11, 2001, an Islamic terrorist group known as al-Qaeda carried out a series of four attacks on the United States. On September 11th, 2001, a horrific act of terror struck our nation to the core. Fear, devastating and humbling, lodged into our blessed lives. Over 2,800 American civilians were murdered in cold blood when two planes were hijacked and flown directly into the twin towers (Anderson 3). This atrocious event caused the entire country to mourn for its loss, and as American citizens, it is impossible to ignore the destruction of such an event.

America had not seen such a world changing, eye opening terrorist led event since the attack on Pearl Harbor in 1941. The September 11th attacks have had a profound effect on American history. Often referred to as “9/11”, these attacks were comprised of a group of organized terrorists known as Al-Qaeda. This extreme Islamic group assaulted several landmarks in New York City, Washington D.C, and the state of Pennsylvania. In New York City, two airliner jets were hijacked with passengers aboard and slammed into the World Trade Center. “The next attack resulted in a plane colliding into the Pentagon, government building; the last attack was in Pennsylvania when a plane crashed into a field. The September 11th-attacks have affected airport security by the new training of flight attendants, the formation of the Transportation Security Administration and new technical advances to keep up with increased terror threats.

September 11, 2001, a devastating day for many Americans across the nation, left many innocent people injured and dead. This was the day the Twin Towers collapsed due to a terrorist attack. “The attackers were Islamic terrorists from Saudi Arabia and several other Arab nations. Reportedly financed by Saudi fugitive Osama bin Laden’s al-Qaeda terrorist organization” (History.com) The terrorist hijacked four American Airlines so they could crash them into the World Trade Center. The Twin Towers stood as symbols of American wealth and success. (The Day That Changed America, p. 19) Al-Qaeda believed if they could surprise attack the U.S. they would weaken our country and frighten the rest of us, but this act of terror strengthened all to stick together and not let them believe the terrorist have won. More than 3,000 people died while inside the towers. Some had no faith in getting alive so many began to jump so they didn’t have to panic and die a slow painful death. Millions across the country witnessed both towers collapse in New York and on the news, it was almost everywhere.
