In 1962 the penalty of witchcraft was to be hung or smashed. There was a big outburst of witchcraft and spells that were going around among the people of Massachusetts in 1962. Some of the women of Salem began the witchcraft many people started to catch on and fallow them. A lot of these people were hung do to what the bible said about the wrongs of witchcraft. When these women of Salem Massachusetts started to do witchcraft and pass it on to other people they were put on trial for their actions, which at the time was, illegal. The Salem Witch Trials were a terrible ordeal that changed the small city of Salem, Massachusetts and numerous people’s lives forever. During these trials, innocent individuals were persecuted and put to death. People were terrified of the supposed witches’ power, and many made false accusations through acting odd or speaking of things they had never seen. The Salem Witch Trials were one of the craziest persecutions in history, and a huge government fail, where many blameless people were killed because of lies, deception, and fear.

The Crucible, a play by Arthur Miller, examines the historical impact of the 1600 Salem Witch Trials. Since John Proctor is motivated by Elizabeth, his decision to save her from being hanged creates a life or death situation for him by the end of the play.

People there were accused of being witches and were either hung or stoned, even if they did not confess to the crime. In the play, John Proctor, is accused by Abigail, who John had an affair with, of practicing witchcraft. He and his wife were both tried in a court of law, found guilty and eventually John was hung at Gallows Hill on August 19th, 1692. His wife was not hung at the time, as she was pregnant with child.

Abigail and the girls asked Tituba to conjure spirits so they could get their loves and what else they wanted. Due to this, strange things started happening in the village with the girls. Many people were being accused of being witches and put on trial to later be hanged for doing the Devil’s work.

Merriam-Webster’s Dictionary defines crucible as, “a place or situation that forces people to change or make difficult decisions.” This applies to The Crucible because during the play, hundreds of people are faced with the dilemma of choosing either to confess to the court about something they did not do, or deny their act of witchcraft and be hanged for lying. Different characters had a different perspective throughout the play causing some to change more than others, and some not at all. Bridget Bishop was the first convicted witch and she was hung in that June following her trial. Eighteen other people followed Bishop to the Salem Gallow Hill and about 150 men, women, and children were accused of being witches over the next few months. By the time September 1692 arrived the frenzy had begun to subside and they turned away from the trials. The Massachusetts General Court annulled guilty verdicts later on against those that were accused of being witches and they gave monetary and other securities to their families. However, resentment was still there in the community along with eternally tying Salem to an unpleasant period in time.

The Salem witch trial is fully of mystery and suspense. It every man for themeself. People are controlling each other so they can hurt one another and see their enemy crush in life. Everything that is going on is the cause for attention the teenagers want to be the center of attention and get what they want. Salem witch trial has affected everyone in “The Crucible’ family and the government they do not know what to believe. Everyone is full of lies and guilt but who is there to believe if inconet people are getting blamed and killed for things they have not done. During this time people minds are brainwash who knows what is the next step. In this time period the “ laws of God” is important to everyone or if they don’t follow these laws

The Crucible was based off the events in a small town/ village called Salem in 1692. There were no more than 600 residents all together so everyone knew each other. The Crucible focused on the Salem witch trials that took place, and started from young girls claiming to be possessed by the devil. The people who lived in Salem were so obsessive about the possible threats in their town that they came up with unreasonable reasons on who was a witch, which made many innocent people die. Many innocent people were accused just because someone didn’t like them or wanted rid of them. Most were executed without a fair trial. These young girls caused a chain of events that will never be forgotten; They killed several people and ruined many others lives.

The Trials were a series of events that happened from the spite of jealousy, interior motives, fear, and religion. Two hundred people were accused of witchcraft and twenty were hanged for it. After being caught, fear grips the group of girls, allowing them to blame anyone they don’t like. The girls, with their newfound power, abuse it with grudges. The main plot is formed from the fear that grips the townspeople, as they are afraid of their secrets being exposed. Elizabeth talk to John about his affair with Abigail saying that he should confess and call her out with the accusation blasphemies. Soon after, Elizabeth is arrested for witchcraft. Reverend Parris calls Reverend Hale, who is an expert in witchcraft, to investigate. 91 people who are accused by the girls are arrested under the authority of chief judge Danforth. Soon, Mary and
