Support independence in the tasks of daily living
1. Understand principles for supporting independence in the tasks of daily living
1.1 Explain how individuals can benefit from being as independent as possible in the tasks of daily living
Encouraging individuals to be as independent as they can be will give them more control over their life. This could be things such as choosing what they want to eat, what activity they want to what they want to wear, encouraging to do things for themselves. If everything is chosen and done for the client this may make them feel useless and worthless.
1.2 Explain how active participation promotes independence in the tasks of daily living
Active participation means being involved as much as

1.6 Explain why it is important to establish roles and responsibilities for providing support
It is important to establish roles and responsibilities when providing support so things will run smoothly in the home. Your manager should give certain jobs to do on a daily basis so they know who to blame if something isn’t done. Also if roles aren’t given out then the hard or unlikeable jobs will be pushed to one side and not done.
2. Be able to establish what support is required for daily living tasks
2.3 Describe how and when to access additional guidance to resolve any difficulties or concerns about support for daily living tasks
For additional guidance you should speak to your managers, colleagues, professionals or refer to individuals care plans. You should seek additional guidance if you are unsure on how you should provide support for daily living tasks.
4. be able to provide support for buying and using household and personal items
4.1 Identify different ways of buying household and personal items
When assisting clients with purchasing household items (depending on the mental capacity of the individual) I would ask them how they would like to get their shopping weather this
When planning realistic care, the needs of others should be taken into consideration. (Others could refer to family members, friends, work colleagues or carers.)
People should always be involved and in control of any development of their life and should be discussed with them throughout ensuring that they understand both the gain they will receive as well as any risks involved. Support should be given when and where needed, this could be anything from encouragement and motivation through to equipment to help them. When equipment is provided it is essential that someone who knows how to use this equipment shows them how to use and work it to receive the best benefit from it to a level where they understand clearly and fully.
The above guides not only relate to the workplace, but can also be applied to the society at large and within the adult support work role. Within the role of work of an
I am going to discuss the care strategies that can be used to support individuals and discuss the circumstances in which they might use.
Provide support for an individual to check the benefits and allowances to which they are entitled.
People can learn practical living skills on a day-to-day basis. It is important therefore that care workers recognize opportunities and give the appropriate support. If a person is living in a supported living environment, the opportunities to learn life skills can be effectively embedded on a regular basis. For example, while the support workers helping the person to do their shopping use public transport or access a service such as a cinema, there are opportunities to develop communication, organization and numeracy skills. When planning activities the support worker, with the person, should recognize and seize opportunities for that person to develop valuable learning and life skills. Shopping trips can be a useful learning opportunity – for example, when planning what is needed, writing lists, organizing where to go and keeping within
Biii Explain why it is important to review care or support plans with an individual, and to monitor their changing needs or preferences. (HSC 036 2.3)
In order to support clients to buy items in the way they preferred I would discuss with and accompany the client whilst either shopping on the internet or in person etc.
Social service can help offer assistance to aid living independently such as new lighting installation, daily living skills training and a rehabilitation worker may be able to improve kitchen skills, and general household
3.5- explain how to accesses extra support or service to enable individuals to communicate effectively
Secondly, in the works of “Self-Reliance” written by Ralph Waldo Emerson, when he is talking about the way people think he states, “it is easy to live after our own; but the great man is he who in the midst of the crowd keeps with perfect sweetness the independence of solitude” This quote is saying that if you are surrounded by a community, do your own thing, which is wrong. The individual needs to be able to blend with a community by still having their own identity. If that individual accomplishes anything, they would feel like they would have to keep it to themselves because they are their own individual. You do need to be your own person, but that means nothing if you don’t have any companionship or relationships in your life to share
Next, to further support my claims I will be discussing the notion of Locke’s individualism wherein the theory revolves around and emphasizes the importance and primacy of the individual, of his or her rights, and of his or her independence of action (Velazquez, 2012). This theory negates society as a whole and focuses on the individual because it is as individuals where we are nurtured and become who we are today. An individual acts on his own, makes decisions of his own, and interact with groups as an individual (Rowlands, 2006). Human beings are not as social as they think. We do not depend on them, instead it is as individuals where we grow and learn. When one is taught a subject, the individual is the one that grasps it and retains that knowledge. It is through ourselves and no one
Information exchange is a vital component in understanding and incorporation Mr D's strengths, aspirations and needs to the care plan. In the questionnaire at the start of the assessment process a series of relevant data was collected, such as what positive changes they would like in their lives, their wishes and hopes. This data shapes the way the care plan is designed and focuses on a holistic approach that encompasses a person-centered care plan that surrounds them; taking into account their social, spiritual, financial, physical and emotional health and needs. The process of collecting information for assessments are ongoing due to the fluctuation of the patient's needs, and it takes a time to understand and find the missing pieces to
Another concept I use to inform my work with clients is self-determination which is a critical social work value. Nevertheless, I am aware that clients often make life
Defining actions and being aware of reactions is very important when feeling powerless. Understanding the choices an individual makes and a how to redefine actions will encourage the client to feel empowered. In my practice I would encourage my clients to know that they have power to control every action they commit and they have the power to react how they chose. If they react positively then the outcome will also be positive. Helping to make better decisions and reactions will help them to feel like they have power over situations and will encourage them to continue to redefine their problems and turn them into positive situations.
