Many people dream about being an American. They dream because they envision America as the land of peace and prosperity. But is it? At times it has been, and at times its not. It is hard for the United States to be correct all the time because they have been unwilling designated as the “World Police”. Throughout history there have been examples politically, economically, and socially, where being an American is rewarding and times where it is embarrassing. To be an American means progress. We evolved from a world ruled by white men to a world of equal opportunity.

A country of hopes and dreams, a state of farmland and small towns. A person's background can change the way they live their lives forever. As Americans, we are lucky to live in a country where we have promises for the future, people to push us to be the best we can be, and educational resources that are never ending.

Some say that exceptionalism is deemed as wonderful, others might say that it’s a mission. The concept of exceptionalism is seen as a great thing, one that many feel so patriotic about. While those against American exceptionalism might argue that America is not its own, and is quite in fact like the other nations before them. Even though for many the concept of American Exceptionalism might vary, America for the most part has evolved since the beginning of it’s time till now. And the changes are quite evident.

Most people would define the American Dream as the upbringing of success, the ability to control destiny, and to enjoy freedom due to the American social, economic, and political system. According to the Oxford English Dictionary Online, the American Dream means the ideal that every US citizen should have an equal opportunity to achieve success and prosperity through hard work, determination, and initiative. However, there could not be an absolute concrete definition of the American Dream as it is viewed by people on a `basis of their different worldviews,

America: a bright shining country of freedom and happiness, a place where countless have traveled long hard days just for a chance to live in the home of the free. Where the people hold the power. The power to vote, power to pick where, how and, why you live. Where people born with nothing can one day have everything, no matter where you were born or what race or gender you are. Then again when you pull back the curtain you see the ugly truth that the American dream is not realistic, you see people giving it there all but not getting what they want because of their race or gender or whatever else we consider as not satisfactory here in America.

America is known as the land of the free, the land of justice, the land of liberty. It can also be looked down upon. But there are so many other aspects, so many other amazing things that make America such a great country. When people think of America, they think of many things. However, in my opinion, America means equality, diversity, and freedom.

Ralph Waldo Emerson once said "America is another name for opportunity". My vision of America is a place where citizens have a chance for success. Even though everyone cannot be a millionaire, that does not mean that you have to live on the streets. It should not matter if you are a farmer, a lawyer, a veteran, or even an everyday average person, they all have the opportunity to live the American Dream. This is why I envision America as a land of opportunity and success.

Land of the free and home of the brave is a phrase that many people use to describe America. Others may think of the United States when they see stars and stripes. Our forefathers strived to begin a nation that would be better than the nations of that time, and they surpassed that goal. When one thinks of America, there are many different ideas that pop into our heads. There are so many components that combine together to create this strong nation. Our freedoms and rights, diversity and equality, and how we overcome struggles are all ideals that represents the United States of America.

For more than 200 years America has been a young nation built on the principles of democracy, unity, and hard work. Over these last 200 years America has flourished in science, industry, farming, and becoming the world’s most dominant superpower. Yet, in recent years citizens have been accused of being fat and stupid. But what is it that makes America what it is? The answer would be America is a country that has beat the odds progressed to the world stage and has citizens with the work ethic and will to keep it at the top. Many things that are great about Americans are the freedoms given by the Bill of Rights and the strict limit of power that is given to the U.S government.

For centuries, The American Dream has been widely spoken of. America has been portrayed as a land to create a new life, a life in which democracy and equal opportunity thrive; and the promise of wealth and freedom has been given. To this day, this entices to countries that are poverty stricken, war-torn, or countries with oppressive governmental systems.
