Throughout this semester we have had to write many types of essays. Although this is a college English class there is still room for improvement. I made much improvement during the semester of the class. I was able to identify my weaknesses. I learned how to make improvements to the areas I was having problems in. Although each essay we did was different I was able to begin with one essay and throughout the semester turn it into two other essays. I was able to change my style of writing to fit the type of audience I was working with. I will continue to work on my writing and keep improving it. As we worked our way through the semester we moved from the Change Project to the Public Argument. I was able to look back at how one essay was …show more content…
I noticed that I have an issue with my placement of commas. I don’t know when to place them and when not. Since that is an issue I end up not placing them at all and I need them. I am learning when they are needed and when not from the feedback on my paper showing where there should be placement of them.
Throughout the class I was given feedback on needing to work on the structure and organization of my paper. I feel that it has improved but more work must be done. I have worked on how a structure my papers and the way I make them flow. I sometimes will begin with an outline when I begin to write a paper. At the beginning of the semester I didn’t use outlines because I felt that they were a waste of time and it made the process of writing a paper too long. After I did an outline it made it more clear what I was writing about. The outlines have helped and I will continue to use them on future papers. I have learned that I can’t try to complete a paper in sections. If I do it that way the paper tends to not flow like it would if I complete it all at one times. It seems as if my thoughts change when writing in sections.
The process of finding research information and sources we difficult at the beginning of the semester. Finding sources off the internet wasn’t an issue but finding certain types of sources was. We were expected to find academic source instead of just something found on the internet. When looking for academic sources we had to make sure that
I have wrote many different kind of essay and paper. From a point of view of three person, first person, what you think this person is telling you, to writing how you feel, what changed your life to where do you see yourself in the next 10 years. I enjoyed this writing class and I know my teacher has enjoy my present. The only bad thing I can say is I HATE writing annotated bibliography and anything that have something to do with it,
There was many steps that helped me improve in this class including drafts and peer-evaluation worksheets. Having a rough draft is one of the best ways to help me improve on my essays because it gives me a professional eye to see the problems that I’m not able to. Discussing the prompts of our essays had benefited me because it gave me a sense of direction of where I should start and another perspective. Peer-evaluation worksheets are also one of the great tools used to improve my writing because it gave me a different approach on my essay that is by peers. They wrote some particularly useful revisions I should make to increase the value of my writing. By having a rubric to follow as guidelines had immensely improved
During this semester, I have learned multiple things in my class, English 101. I have learned a lot about different concepts while writing these essays, I am less scared of the blank white page, and improved my rhetorical strategies. Through class assignments and writing the different types of papers, I learned these skills. Writing the Response to Argument essay and the Comparing Perspectives essay, was the most challenging to write, but improved my writing skills significantly.
When I went back and re-read my essay I still thought it was well written but I realized how many thing I could have added. During the course of this year, I believe that my writing has significantly improved, especially my grammar and vocabulary in my writing. Some of my weaknesses as a writer are conveying the message the prompt asks about in the whole essay because sometimes my essays tend t go a bit off topic along the

Following Mrs. Brauckmann’s list of rules and expectations will allow a person to grow and become more focused on their education. These rules are very important which means they need to be respected by all English II students.
During this semester I had some strengths and weaknesses in my essays on my writing and think what I could put on each essay I did. In this portfolio I have included three of my essays that I need during this semester and they are American Nature, Recall my Home, and timed writing 2 called Privacy. They show in many ways how I have improve in my writing and what were my struggles in writing. I have some things that I need to focus on to improve as a writer, and this three essays that I showing, show in what I have to improve on. I have had many many obstacles during this semester in my writing, but I know that I have improved in some of them. I feel good that I have learned many things I did not know before. For example, I didn't know before how to write an essay the correct way and format. Maybe I dont know perfectly how but I know more than before, and I feel good about it. One of my weaknesses were how to have smooth sentences or paragraphs. Also one that I always had
As this semester progressed I became a much stronger writer. I have taken more time to create solid essays. I have become more aware of the mistakes that I continuously made and correctioning myself on them. The essay I did the best during second semester was visual criticism essay. It allowed me to write about a painting in a creative way, that other people might not see it the way I do. Between both semesters my best essay was the creative essay. It was a very meaningful topic to me. It allowed me to write about a subject that was important to me.
The moment I started this course, the class is taught to freewrite, map ideas, and outline our essay. These methods have been the most helpful strategy ever I could have been taught. After, being able to draught down all my ideas down in an organized outline I was prepared and had all my ideas together. Unlike, other times my ideas have always been all over an essay because some ideas would fly by and be forgotten which would take me more time to write a paper then the usual. I learned that in writing it is always very important to have some type of organization, so it leads the reader with a clear understanding of the overall theme. From here on I will always take the time to organize my writing because this method has helped me gain clear writing
My writing journey this semester has been a roller coaster. Since the beginning of this course I have improved in so many different areas. When I first began in this class, I didn’t have a clue how to start my essays. I wasn’t very good with being descriptive either. On top of that, revising was something I hated to do. My writing process was very messy and organization was never something I considered when writing a paper. Since taking this class my skills in organization, revision, and description have improved tremendously.
As a writer, I would like to think that I have progressed a little bit throughout the semester. From the Doyle essay to the Food and Identity paper, there has been some improvements. I feel I have improved when it comes to writing papers that need sources like the what if essay and the food and identity essay. I feel like my creativity aspect has improved a little due to the Doyle essay. This class has also helped me gain a different perspective of other people’s ideas and opinions. I think that is the most helpful thing that I have used
I did really well considering the levels I received for my practice essay. Doing the practice essay was very helpful. I truly enjoy writing even though the writing process often takes long for me and I struggle to get started. I always make sure that I do a thorough planning before I get started as that helps me get my thoughts together and makes writing easier. I think I need to work on my spacing and punctuation as well as keeping the quality of my written work consistent throughout. I struggled to join some of my sentences together in a way that they complemented each other and I need to work on that. I did well overall and I am going to use the feedback I got in future to make my writing even better. The essay actually got me thinking
This semester in English 102 has been the most my writing has ever grown from one class. I have learned a lot different things about styles of writing and different types of essays. I liked how the class was based on a lot of “Why?” questions that really made you think. That made for a very interesting class each day.
Throughout this semester there are many skills that I have noticed have improved through the constant writing of essays for this class. The one that I find most noticeable is a habit I had long struggled with which was essentially my tendency to be over necessarily wordy when writing my essays. I believe that I was able to somewhat fix this subconsciously, just by knowing that I was no longer in high school, and could no longer get by with just attempting to fill up my word count. I also believe I have greatly improved in my topic selection. In high school I would throw caution to the wind and just pick whatever topic came to mind just in an effort to get it done. I have been much more calculated in college, and I believe that it has helped me write better essays. While these were the
I will discuss my performance and progress based on two areas of writing in the class. The two areas I will reflect on are my essay writing and following the MEAL plan in my writing. I believe that I improved with my essays over the semester with this class. My first couple of essays were horrible, but my last few essays turned out to be great because I finally got help and more feedback from others. Here is a screenshot of my first rhetorical analysis essay. It was about if everyone should go to college. I did a poor job on this because I just summarized what the author did. Now the
During this semester, I have strengthened my writing by trying new writing techniques, learning about purpose, and finding new ways of combating writers block. My first essay in this class was less focused then the essays I wrote later in
