Response to Change Change should be seen as a challenge and embraced with enthusiasm (Marquis & Huston, 2012). In my professional and personal life, I view and respond to change as a way to make improvements to existing regulations and circumstances. I embark upon the quest with determination to succeed at whatever task is presented to me. Life without change can become unchallenging and stagnant (Marquis & Huston, 2012). As society and technology advance, you must incorporate the necessary transformations that arise with it. Time management was a vital element that I had to incorporate into my daily routine. My entire family had to adjust to the new stressors that were introduced with my decision of returning to school. The normal routine that they had grown accustomed to was no longer practical. It was difficult for them to accept that I was no longer the primary source of everyday responsibilities. This new adaptation was difficult and stressful for them to accept. However, the willingness to accept their new roles ended with a positive outcome for everyone involved. I have witness response to change through my friends and family members. Each individual varies in their skills and ability to accept change (Blais & Hayes, 2011). In order for change to be a healthy experience, it must be entered into with an open mind and positive attitude. When unforeseen change occurs within my family, we pull together to help each other through it. My network of friends have the same view towards change. If situations arise that are positive, we embrace and appreciate them. Conversely, we handle negative transformations by pulling strength from each other. The ER is a place of constant, emotional unplanned change. As a team, we approach each situation with strength and determination. Negative attitudes does not exist within our group. It is easy to reject change just because I have grown accustomed to the way the work is being performed. Without examining the new way, I am not giving it a chance. Rejecting change delays progress and wastes time and effort. To overcome this hindrance, reactions should be set aside, and the change should be judged critically based on the idea.
Change is a process that affects individuals and their environments. Some people choose to embrace change, while others resist it. “Macbeth”; the song “The Times They Are A-Changin’” and the episode of the Twilight Zone, “A Stop at Willoughby” all successfully convey the notion of change and demonstrate how individuals and societies can embrace or resist change.

By looking at change as process with distinct stages, you can prepare yourself for what is coming and make a plan to manage the transition – looking before you leap, so to speak. All too often, people go into change blindly, causing much unnecessary turmoil and chaos.
Life throws many curveballs. Whether it is good or bad it creates changes throughout an individual’s lifetime. For example, the change of getting a promotion at work. There are two main perspectives to getting a promotion. The first perspective, if viewed positively is receiving a higher title, better pay, and more benefits which an individual will be more than happy to accept the change. The second perspective, if viewed negatively is having greater responsibility, working more hours, and dealing with more people which will most likely slow down the individual’s ability to manage the change. Change can be chosen or forced, also difficult and scary. Some people don’t think of it as difficult and scary, but more welcomed and beneficial. Those people tend to be impulsive in their decisions, without caring or worrying about the consequences. I cannot do that. I over analyze and break everything down. Change surrounds us and is unrelenting. All a person needs to do is walk into an electronics store and survey all the new gadgets available for purchase. We are constantly bombarded by advertising and marketing telling us of the improvements and benefits of new products and services.
Change also brings hope and a sense of renewal. It reinvigorates, it inspires and is emotional.
