3. Research Methodology
3.1 Introduction
This chapter will focus on the research methods application and explain why use these research methods to accomplish this case study. This study was used the qualitative method to collect various data in order to get more depth and comprehensive information to explore the questions of this study. The qualitative method mainly used in exploratory research on objectives, it can be used to obtain potential causes, ideas, and motivations. Furthermore, the qualitative method can also provide more in-depth problem-solving methods and explore new ideas in objectives of the study (Cohen, 2006).
3.2 Primary research: Questionnaire and Interview
Primary research is the method that obtain the first-hand data from experiments and investigation. It contains several different methods such as questionnaire, interviews and surveys (Blaxter, 2006). Due to changes in China 's luxury consumption is from the beginning of 2014, there are only a few secondary sources can be found on the Internet. Therefore, this study has mainly focused on gather first-hand information and resources on the analysis of changes in China 's luxury consumption.
In the questionnaire part, by the time of Easter holidays, I went back to China to do this research. I have created 120 copies of the questionnaire in order to collect more information from different age, sex, and occupation, region, and education Chinese consumers. The primary research has conducted in two major
Qualitative method is using open-ended questioning, non-statistical research techniques, or value-based observations. In this research, three main methodologies are adopted as focus group, distributing questionnaires and conducting personal interviews simultaneously. Methods are all appropriate and contributed to a comprehensive research. The reason is that aim of this research is to acquire an in-depth understanding of
This section of the article shall address the approach used in the case study, providing explanations of the preferred research method, sample details, variables under examination, data collection
The contents of this chapter contains the research methodology of the project. As such, within this chapter the outline of the research strategy, the research method, the research approach, the data collection methods, sample selection, the form of data analysis, any ethical considerations and the research limitations are discussed.
The methodological approach of this study is guided by its aims and research questions. This section starts from the clarification of research questions to explain why the qualitative methods are employed.
There are several research approaches available for researchers to choose. Therefore, it is essential that researchers choose the best research approach for their problem statement and purpose. The purpose of this paper is to develop three hypothetical research approaches, compare, and contrast the three research approaches. The three approaches chosen are the case study approach, survey research approach, and the ex post facto approach.
This chapter will outline the research design and methodology proposed to be followed. First, the overall research design will be justified. Next, the independent and dependent variables will be
After reviewing many qualitative case studies researches, several features have been found such as case study started with identifying a particular case. The case might be individual, group, an organization. The aim of qualitative case study can be to demonstrate a unique case or to understand a specific issue, or concern for instance, teenage pregnancy. In case study researcher collected different forms of data to have depth understanding of the case. Some case study require analysis of multiple unite within the case, but others report it as entire case. To analyze case study researcher describes the case and identifies themes or specific situations of each case. Finally, case study usually end conclusion demonstrates the overall meaning found in the case (Creswell, 2013).
In doing the research, the methodology must be appropriate so that the analysis findings could reach the objective. Research methodology proposed one procedure in order way to be follow to answer all the questions in the research that want to be made. Quoted by Denzin and Lincoln (1994), methodology is a process that related with research objective and data. In the others word, it is early research planning that include the research scope, data collection method, data collection process and data analysis method. For Ranjit (2005), methodology is one of crucial part in research, in order to ensure the research can be done in the systematic way Overall, this chapter will discuss on the research frame and the methodologies used in order to meet the research objectives. Research process been divided into three main parts there are preliminary research part, data collection and last one data analysis.
Qualitative research is exact research where the information is not as numbers. Qualitative researchers study things in their natural settings, make sense of, or interpreting information. My research paper is about children with mental health illnesses. Qualitative research on my paper would be the research that I found that on my topic from creditable sites that consisted of data with no numbers included. Kevin Browne stated, “There is continuing debate on the extent of the effects of media violence on children and young people, and how to investigate these effects. The aim of this review is to consider the research evidence from a public-health perspective. A search of published work revealed five meta-analytic reviews and one quasi-systematic review, all of which were from North America. There is consistent evidence that violent imagery in television, film and video, and computer games has substantial short-term effects on arousal, thoughts, and emotions, increasing the likelihood of aggressive or fearful behavior in younger children, especially in boys. The evidence becomes inconsistent when considering older children and teenagers, and long-term outcomes for all ages. The multifactorial nature of aggression is emphasized, together with the methodological difficulties of showing causation. Nevertheless, a small but significant association is shown
Qualitative research methods usually involve in depth interviews to discover view points on an issue. Unlike quantitative research, qualitative research does not involve statistical tests (Differences Between Qualitative and Quantitative Research Methods). “Putting the ‘patient’ in patient safety: a qualitative study of consumer experiences” is a good qualitative research article for a nurse to critique. The research articles title clearly indicates the main objective of the study is to find out how consumers feel about safety regarding their experiences in the hospital. The abstract effectively summarizes the report giving information about the background, objectives, design, results, and conclusion. The analysis of the study followed an interpretive analytical approach.
This chapter presents a list of research methods that I have used for the first case study and plan to use for the second and third case studies as well. I will utilize research through design and qualitative research practices to answer the research question of the thesis. Below I give a brief overview of both the practices and how I execute them in the design and study.
This research paper will involve the use of qualitative approach as the main research methodology. This is a common case study method, which provides a clear vision on related implication of the research topic to researcher (Kondracki & Wellman, 2002). Besides, the data in this method depends on human experience and this will be more persuasive and powerful than only data gathered via quantitative research. The reason to apply qualitative case study tool in this study due to its flexibility of use and also its ability, which allows the researcher to express their ideas and thoughts in the within context of the research (Maxwell. 2005).
Qualitative research is the technique that is used as a part of exploratory research and to derive the independent variables. There are different methods through which we can conduct the qualitative research. As a part of this study we have adopted the following methods:
This chapter of the research intends to provide basic understanding of the adopted research design, methods and approaches for the collection and interpretation of data (Kumar & Phrommathed, 2005). The methodology does not only offers the fundamentals of adopted research methods, but also intends to present the rationale for the selected research i.e. specific research methods and techniques. In addition, it provides a description of the research instruments through which the relevant information was collected and gathered in the research study.
Quantitative research method was used to collect and analyze data in order to answer the research questions to this study.
