Employers and employees have the legal duty to ensure that the working environment is a safe and secure one.
Employer responsibilities are: • to ensure, so far as it is reasonable practicable, that the working environment is a secure and healthy one for all employees and for other persons that may come in contact • assuring that all the information is drawn to everybody’s attention.
On the other hand the Employee’s responsibilities are: • When doing their job, take care not to harm themselves or the others • Respect the rules and co-operate with employers in order to meet the statutory requirements • Not to misuse anything provided to protect their safety, health and welfare
2. Explain the purpose of following health, safety and security procedures in a business environment.
Having specific procedures regarding health, safety and security and follow them is a very important aspect in a business environment.
One reason for following the health, safety and security procedures is the legal aspect. Both the employers and employee must comply with the law and rules: the organisation must take specific actions (prepare documentation on the procedures and choosing personnel to be responsible for this aspect), the staff and other persons must respect the procedures.
