The topic of "mental health" has a profound stigma in our society and it notably affects students with disabilities. The nurses' office should be a safe place for students with behavioral issues where they can express their somatic symptoms free from the pressures of the school setting (peers, administrators, and teachers). An alternative to expulsion and suspension can be the implementation of School-wide Positive Behavior Support (SWPBS) framework (Nocera, Whitbread and Nocera, 2014). It was implemented in a low-performing middle school and it incorporated evidence-based education strategies, improved school climate, reinforced positive student behavior, and improved overall academic achievement (Nocera, Whitbread and Nocera, 2014). In order to change the climate of a school, it must encompass the support of the district, administrators, staff and students. One important facet of the school nurse is case management of conditions and orchestrating care with the school community. This can enable the identification of students with depression, anxiety, behaviors of self-harm and providing them and their families with proper referrals and educating staff on such conditions. Therefore, subsiding harsh punishments and spearheading crisis management of possible destructive behaviors.

The purpose of this paper is to research the use of the School-Wide Positive Behavior Support system while teaching students with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD). I am interested in learning the SWPBS model and if it is beneficial to use with ASD students. I would like to identify evidence-based practices for supporting students with Autism Spectrum Disorder and the best ways to implement them within the school system.
This paper is an overview of mental health professional with several years’ experience to be a consultant to a local district superintendent. Based on information gather from a phone call from the superintendent regarding three students and a teacher that was severely stabbed by a student. This has been in the media for about two weeks. During this time, the superintendent has been receiving complaints from people in the community, parents and teacher stating that security measures are not adequate and that discipline for the student are lax. My responsibility as a MHP consultant is to develop a plan of action, intervention and my recommendation to the superintendent. To help improve communication within the community about the school, student, teachers and administrate staffs.

Adams supports a positive school environment at Poe Middle School is by having “clear direct communication that is valued, practiced and taught.” When a student is sent to the counseling office, Ms. Adams has a conversation with that particular student. She then tells the student to practice the good choice behavior. Ms. Adams has an open door policy to her students, co-workers and parents. She values everyone’s concerns, opinions, views and ideas. So therefore, she expects the same from them, if not, she will clearly teach them how to value her opinions. To improve this strategy in place I would require a student to reflect on their bad choices, come up with a good choice and have them practice the expected behavior. Madison Community Unit School District services students grades K-12 and they have a support center that houses these same grade levels for challenged children. Children who display violence, and who are overly aggressive with students and teachers, during the school year are also sent to the support center. Ultimately, this is done as a means of attempting to reshape behavior that could ultimately result in some students being expelled for the remainder of the school year, or being sent to an alternative school. The demographic makeup of the Junior and senior high school is a matriculation of 300 students, which consist of 92.2% black, 4.8% white, 1.2% Hispanic, and 1.8% of two or more races. This school provides service to a base of 99% low income student, 11% of these students have an IEP, and the total number of students followed by the counselor equates to 199 students amongst Jr high and high school. The graduation rate is 82% which is rather high, but the percentage that is college ready is 6% and that seems rather low to me. The Counseling techniques utilized by the counselor is 50% career development and 50% educational improvement. There is a high need for social emotional training as well as the entire school needs to be addressed about bullying. Six years ago, my school, San Pasqual Academy, experience an increase of special education students with emotional disturbance and oppositional defiant disorder classifications. In response we begin to implement the Building Effective Schools Together (BEST) program under the guidance of Jeff Sprague of the University of Oregon’s Institute on Violence and Destructive Behavior. I served on this BEST committee and collaborated with my colleagues to create, implement, and monitor a schoolwide behavior plan for our site. We gathered qualitative and quantitative student behavior data to inform and guide our work. After two years of program implementation and data collection, we were finally prepared to begin to focus our work toward accurately targeting students in need of individualized/intensive interventions and followed the research question, “Which of our students are in the most need of behavior support?
I might have used a little Positive Therapy in the sense that when a person feels anxious, the anxiety almost makes the individual notice an important moment and that will give the client a chance to act properly. For example, if a professor is about to begin teaching a class on theories it would be understandable if that professor was slightly anxious. Since, the professor is going to influence future counselors who will in the future go in to the workforce and begin to treat clients.

This review period, Connor acquired 8 sanctions for profanity towards a peer (1), moving without permission (1), items in room (1), unkempt room (1), profanity (1), horseplay (1) and not following instructions (2).

I really liked reading your post; Social workers have to think about the well being of the children as well as the families. Rural areas are different then urban areas. In the urban areas there are a lot of people who have other resources that they can use if they don’t think the policies of an agency, in a rural area that may not be provided therefore a social worker has to realize the potential problems. By upsetting someone in a rural area you could possible be upsetting so one that you will need in the future. I really like the behavior intervention method. The purpose of this study was to explore the links between implementation of School-wide positive Behavior Interventions and Supports (SWPBIS) and (1) academic, (2) attendance, and (3) behavior outcomes in 883 high schools (Freeman, et al., 2016).
This article will address the data collection of aggressive behavior incidents at Pathway High School. We will address several different data collections and measurements to the following subjects: The occurrences of aggressive behavior incidents reported before and after a program implementation, the data and success rate on the behavior correction procedures in the classroom by teachers and the success rate to the implementation of the School-Wide Positive Behavioral Support (SWPBS) program, within Pathway High School.
In putting together a team which is not an easy task when one really does not have students to work with constantly. Our team agreed to use the School Wide Positive Behavior Support (SWPBS) approach. This approach uses “a broad range of systematic and individualized strategies for achieving important social and learning outcomes while preventing problem behaviors with all students.”(Northampton Area School District) It is also based on a three-tiered model that addresses student behavior at each of the three tiers. The ultimate goal is student achievement.
