My personal strengths are my communication skills and the variety of work experience that I obtain. I believe through these strengths I have been able to achieve the goals I’ve set out for myself. I have had the opportunity of being a part of a leadership development program called the Jeter's Leaders, where I was able to host an annual social change leadership conference. I was expected to prepare and present an entire workshop about college life in Florida presenting to a group of teenagers and the following year the topic focused on was Bullying and Depression in Chicago. In these conferences, I’ve been able to enhance my communication skills and through these experiences I will try my absolute best to bring the assets that I’ve learned …show more content…
My first internship was a part of a program at the New York Presbyterian Hospital, and the following year I worked within a Dentist office, and just last year I interned for a sports marketing agency called Excel Sports Management. I believe my prior experiences in these internships will be valuable in an internship because I will apply all the fundamentals that I've learned within the past internships. I’ve learned that self-motivation/ taking action is something that is beneficial and expected when interning. I’ve also learned that everyone comes from different backgrounds and environments, and in some cases I may be expected to adapt to my surroundings in order to interact better with others. I still feel that through my internships and my communications skills, there is still so much for me to learn. Although I have some experiences working for other internships, and the Jeter’s Leaders program has provided me with great skills, I feel as though the Futures and Options internship program will help me narrow down my interest in …show more content…
In my last internship with Excel Sports Management, I learned so much about marketing, and how important clients were in an everyday workday. The primary goal was to make sure that their clients were satisfied because indeed those were the company’s customers. Additionally, I also learned that sports management isn't a field that I could see myself working for, even though I absolutely loved my experience there. I am grateful to be able to say in the internships I've participated in thus far I've learned at least one new thing about the kind of career that I am interested in and what kind I am not. I feel as though internships are a great opportunity that helps me get closer and closer to my career aspirations because it helps me figure out what I may or may not want to do as a career for the rest of my life. Overall, I know through the futures and options internship program I will be geared towards an internship with the right guidance and preparation. Hence, the reason why I know that an internship with the Futures and Options program will support my career aspirations due to the five components that I will experience if provided the
For instance the strength of being restorative has shown me that I need to work on not trying to control every situation and solve every problem someone has. I need to let them figure out how to solve their problems and just be a sounding board for them when they need it. Being a mom it is hard to not just jump in every time my boys face a difficult situation and just solve it for them. They are young men now and I realize that I need to take a back seat and let them figure out where their life’s road will take them and to be there to listen and help as they ask me. Hard, yes, but a necessity. By doing the assessment and finding out what my top three strengths are I can use them to in the best way possible to achieve the goals I have for my life both personally and professionally. I realize that being deliberative, my belief system and being restorative are my strengths and not weaknesses and I can now capitalize on those strengths at work and
Internships are extraordinary opportunities to learn and grow. Internships are mostly designed to expand the depth and the breadth of the academic learning in the particular areas of the study. Internship is an opportunity to receive experience in applying all formulas, methods, theories in the classroom to specific experiences in the real world and to see how it actually works.
During an internship you would want to learn about the business that you are interning for. You wouldn’t want your experience to just be about answering phone and pushing papers. My time that I have spent thus far interning in the Athletic Department has not been a waste of time. I have learned that even though the Athletic Department is part of the school, it is still operated as a normal business. Also, I have learned that is very important that every
All of my previous internship experiences have allowed me to hone in on and strengthen different skills. In his article, Kolac stresses the importance of treating one’s career like a “grand experiment” in order to develop a valuable career. My internship at FuturePerfect Ventures was certainly a “grand experiment” for me. While I was able to learn a lot about the financial industry, investing, and startups, I also I had to rely on the communications-related skills that I learned in my graduate classes and from previous internship experiences to help me because I was not interning for a communications team. Now that I’ve interned at FuturePerfect Ventures for
This internship experience at Superdome Sports has allowed me to build on many skills needed to develop my professional career. For starters, it has given me the opportunity to effectively communicate with peers and professionals, both orally and in writing. My responsibilities included a lot of communication with the customers at the front desk, where I helped them with any questions or issues they may have had. I was able to build my customer service skills by helping them in the best possible way with the most clear and correct answers. I also worked with many employees. It was my responsibility to clearly communicate the schedule for the week as well as the staff schedule for the counselors. Not only that, but whenever there was a
Throughout my academic endeavor I have earned a spot in two very diverse internships. My first internship was with LADOT. It focused on my individual skills and how to apply them to singular tasks. I was primarily involved in GIS mapping and worked alongside traffic and computer engineers. Though this was an informative and rigorous internship I found my true inspiration in my engineering professor at Pasadena City College. Dr. Arzoumanian is a successful civil engineer with practice in the private sector. After discussing with her the positive experiences that she has had I knew that I wanted to lead a similar career
Throughout the month of January, I had my first legitimate internship. It is astounding how such a great experience was inconceivable just but five months prior to the new year. I honestly was unsure of what I truly wanted to do for weeks before I figured it out entirely. My interests always primarily fell somewhere between two categories: science and business. The only logical step was to contact businesses and corporations (profit and nonprofit) to explore the opportunities available to me, so that is precisely what I did during the summer. I previously participated in theatrical events, so I decided to include theaters as well. My project was confirmed only but a few weeks after, more towards the end of the season. Consequently, I was given
Focusing more on marketing and business management I feel this internship program has helped me tremendously not only in that aspect, but also in meeting new people throughout my experience that can help me upon the completion of my degree.
Although, I have to say candidly that I don’t feel that I accomplished or learned as much in the end as I had aspired to during the onset of each internship.
An internship also gives a valuable addition to any CV. This will increase a candidate’s market value and assist them in better marketing themselves when seeking employment. Once the internship has reached completion, the individual will also have access to important connections within their selected industry, meaning that the internship was also a great networking tool. Fundamentally, they will emerge from the experience a more learned person who has gained valuable skills and understanding. Ultimately, the intern could be offered employment by the company they have interned for
When I think of an internship it is more than just a requirement to graduate, it is the start of my career. That is why when CONMED reached out to me, I saw it as more than an internship but as an opportunity to make a name for myself. CONMED is a global medical technology company that specializes in the development and sale of surgical and patient monitoring products and services that allow our physician customers to deliver high quality care and as a result, enhanced clinical outcomes for their patients. The position I was offered is in the Human Resources department, which involves working closely with secured data.
Internships are a universal tool that allow people an inside view of potential careers. They grant the general public the ability to observe and be familiarized with job settings and procedures which interest them. They are extremely versatile because they enable people to have assurance. If a person isn’t sure about being a doctor, having an internship at a hospital will give them a real life setting about what their job would be like if they were actually a doctor. Having an internship decreases the
At this internship, I was able to learn many lessons. Those lessons can be applied to any field, but also give me a competitive edge when applying for jobs in the Venture Capital industry. Many of the lessons I have learned were through hearing the stories of other people who have succeeded in the industry, and give me knowledge of what to expect the next few years of my life. Knowing that others are having the same issues as me, and indecision about which field they want to pursue is comforting. Hearing from people including successful entrepreneurs and hedge fund managers show even they have the same conflicts in their lives at my age. Even though many of the lessons can be applied to any field, I learned by far the most about Venture
In researching a dream jobs and potential career opportunities I came across an internship at the highly acclaimed Morgan Stanley. This would be a dream job of mine to work in one of the largest business firms across the globe with multiple locations in numerous counties. Morgan Stanley offers an extensive number of internships one of these being a Summer Analyst in the finance sector of the firm. The opportunity to do these would develop my knowledge within the industry and networking with senior members of the organisation would ideally lead to getting a job within the firm as a financial planner or as a stockbroker.
Therefore, the importance of internships is increasing day by day. It provides a way to apply theoretical knowledge into practical
