Personal Nursing Goals

Google states that a nurse is a "person who is trained to care for the sick and or infirm, especially in a hospital;" however, after my experience in the ER I realized that a nurse was much more than that. When I went to the hospital for my stitches, my fear of anything with a pointed tip was starting to get to me, but the nurse who attended me reassured me that there was nothing to worry about. She talked to me and stayed with me throughout the entire operation, she was able to calm my worries and give me support when I needed it most. It was that experience that taught me the true values of being a nurse. Now when I think of a nurse, not only do I think of someone who is “trained to care for the sick and or infirm” but also someone who is strong, hardworking, compassionate, positive, and caring. …show more content…

The differences that a nurse makes doesn't just extend to aiding their patients but also gaining a personal connection with their patients. I want to do the same exact thing. My goals for nursing is to be able to take care of my patients with immense care and consideration, taking in their emotions, mentality, and preferences into consideration whenever I am dealing with them. I want to make a difference in all their lives and want to come up with different ideas and theories that can help improve patient care. Along with those goals, I also want to be able to promote an environment that encourages growth among all patients in a physical, mental, and spiritual level while still in the limits of the patient's preferences. My goals for nursing is to put the patient’s health and preferences before anything else while I am assisting them. I hope that I can make a difference in their lives and make this period while they need aid one filled with hope and positivity.
