Personal Nursing Goals

I have many goals I would like to pursue in my adventurous journey to becoming a nurse practitioner. First, I will be entering the Traditional Nursing Program next fall. I'm very excited because this will give me a chance to start out by getting my RN (registered nurse) degree. This program is supposed to have rigorous classes and will have a lifelong term care. This degree will approximately take two years. As well as enrolling in the nursing program, I will be completing my AA Degree. I currently have sixteen credits from college credits from CIS (college in the school) credits. I currently am taking fifteen credits, so I only have to take twenty-nine more credits to graduate will my AA Degree.

My three goals for this course are as follows: to better understand the current legal and ethical climate of health care and specifically nursing, to be aware of that climate as I enter clinical, and to understand how I as a nurse can work to make the system more ethical. I chose these three goals, because they provide me with the opportunity to first learn about the current legal and ethical climate of nursing from an academic standpoint while examining how that knowledge translates to what I’m experiencing in clinical. My last goal is reflection-focused, and will allow me to take 5101 course content with me as I move forward as a professional nurse. Registered nurses work alongside physicians providing patient care in a variety of ways. A few examples of what nurses are responsible for include: administering medications, tracking patient’s vital signs, helping to diagnose and properly treat patient aliments and educating the patient and their family on their condition and the course of treatment. Depending on what area of medicine a nurse works in will determine more generalized and specific duties and responsibilities. There are many different areas a nurse may work in. Some areas include: obstetrics and gynecology, pediatrics, emergency room, and many more. Nurses can work in a variety of settings, these can include: hospitals, urgent cares, doctors office, nursing homes and home health.

Nursing is a career which I believe that needs to come from the heart and I have at all times appreciated with respect. My aim in doing my education in nursing was because I always wanted to achieve an extended and successful profession in the health and medical field. I am applying to the Walden M.S. in Clinical Mental Health Counseling Program. I plan to practice as a licensed professional in counseling and Higher Education. I have always wanted to be a Clinical Mental Health Psychologist, working with individuals to help improve their mental and emotional health is something that I am committed to. Starting this program now is the best time because the information that I learned from my undergrad career would help me to be more successful in my grad career by learning more but at an advanced level. Once I receive my degree I plan to go back to school to get my doctorate degree in psychology, and utilize the skills that I have learned to open my own private practice that helps individuals who suffer with mental and emotional disabilities, within my practice I plan to let each individual patient talk about their issues and come up with a strategic plan for treatment. The personal qualities that I possess are having self-confidence and the ability to work and collaborate with others having the ability to be receptive to feedback while maintaining a positive attitude.

The profession of nursing is often looked at as taking care of sick people or treating physical well-being. Many do not realize that nursing encompasses so much more than that. It is very important to me to have a positive attitude that transfers to my coworkers and patients. I want to be committed to helping those in need and desire to be able to be a confident health educator. I think it is very important to use the knowledge I have in my area of expertise to instruct others where it is needed. I would like to be able to say I gave the highest quality of care that I could at the end of each day. I realize that not everything will always be perfect or smooth, and there is only so much I can do. However, many of the rough patches can be eased with hard work and a good outlook. I want to be able to form great relationships with my colleagues as well as the client and facilitate everyone working together. Nursing is a respectable profession and I hope to contribute my own compassion to the entire community.

After working as RN, I decided that I wanted to advance in my practice in professional responsibility, autonomy, and flexibility. I want to put a positive influence on the lives of my patients and their families and become NP. With a goal to engage in advanced practice nursing, I hope to pursue people more, educating them to know how to take care of their health in the way they feel most comfortable. To me, nursing is a gift of giving, loving, and caring, and the rewards in nursing are limitless. Accomplishing my goal of growing to be a Nurse Practitioner will enable me to strengthen my current nursing knowledge base, improve my relationship with my patients and their families, and participate in a noble profession. Becoming a Nurse Practitioner combines the nursing’s compassion, knowledge and skills with the autonomy to practice, diagnose, and treat patients holistically. To the Vanderbilt Nurse Residency Program admissions staff, As a senior nursing student at the University of New Hampshire expected to graduate in May, I am writing to express my sincere interest in the Nurse Residency Program at Vanderbilt Medical Center. Through my research and communication with current residences, I have been attracted to the opportunities Vanderbilt can provide me with as I begin my career as a nurse. While the fascinating field of nursing is ever evolving, my ultimate goals as a lifelong nurse remain stable. I intend to not only work towards my highest potential, but to do so with compassion. My practices have taught me that the world of nursing is not solely based on skills or classroom knowledge but rather, nursing is all encompassing involving many innate qualities.

I am a nursing student. I have a great passion for caring for others. My short term goals are to graduate Riverland Community College with my Associate's Degree in Nursing this December. I plan to work very hard and prepare to take my nursing licensure exam at the beginning of next year to become licensed as a registered nurse. I will then transfer to Metropolitan State University to complete my Bachelor's Degree in Nursing.

My first Nursing Career goal is to complete my education here at St. Francis College to obtain my Bachelors of Science in Nursing and to pass my NCLEX exam. After passing the NCLEX I would like to work as a Registered Nurse in a hospital in or around New York City. While working as a Registered Nurse I would like to gain experience in the field to finally decide what aspect of Nursing I would like to specialize in. My overall goal right now, is to work as an RN and to go back to school to become a Nurse Anesthetist. Within my career my goals are to do my job to the best of my ability. I want to help as many patients as I possibly can and make their experience in the hospital the best it can be.

Becoming a nurse has always been an aspiration of mine, I’ve always wanted a job that uses my caring nature and becoming a nurse seems like the perfect fit. Any job can be rewarding but working in the medical field where you can help save lives, make differences and be supportive at a person’s time of need is at the top of my list when I think of a rewarding career. The definition of nursing has many different meanings depending on whom you ask. To some a nurse is simply the person who brings you your medication and takes your vital signs. To others, including myself, it is someone who keeps you safe and watches over you while you are in a healthcare setting.
