Partners Mentoring Youth Non-Profit Analysis

I am drawn to AmeriCorps because of its commitment to service and matching members to non-profit organizations. I am truly interested in AmeriCorps' service missions including poverty reduction, literacy and youth development, and mentoring. I served as a volunteer helping organize activities for neglected and abused children at the Children’s Advocacy Center, served on a committee for children’s literacy with Better World Books Drive, and volunteered for Big Brothers Big Sisters and American Red Cross. I am comfortable interacting with youth and children. I have always envisioned myself as a leader involved in improving the health of populations and serving my community and I aim to continue the work of improving the missions of anti-poverty

My drive to help others stems from my time volunteering with the service organization, Rotary, and their leadership program, Camp RYLA. When I attended this camp as a high schooler, I learned invaluable lessons of self-confidence and connecting with others, traits seldom found in a high school environment. My experience at this program inspired me to return as a counselor, where I have been helping foster the growth of today’s youth for the past four years.

AmeriCorps is a good program to be in. It trains you on how to help people with different health and mental issues. The program is based upon a non-profit organization. They can participate in many charitable events to raise fund for the less fortunate. Therefore it’s a good program to have on your side as you can see the program is worldwide and it is bigger and they are standing strong. They are in the process of developing an alumni group to allow former participate to maintain active.. I am writing from the Youth and Teen Unit of the City of Daly City Department of Library and Recreation Services. Every summer, there is an opportunity for teens in 8th - 12th grade (ages 13-18) to join our Volunteen Leadership Program (VLP). This program runs in conjunction with our Summer Youth Recreation Program (SYRP), which caters to children (ages 6-12), giving positive and exciting social diversions through recreation. Volunteens work side by side with our Recreators at a SYRP site, giving them opportunities to give back to their community and earn service credits for their school (if applicable). Furthermore, Volunteens learn life skills such as: team building, effective communication, leadership roles, and how to be a positive role model to the youth. Our aim is to prepare youth in our community to become future Recreators in our programs.

Tim saw this and became inspired to become a mentor with the Helping Services For Northeast Iowa. In order to be a mentor “The ability and willingness to value the mentee as a person; Develop mutual trust and respect; Maintain confidentiality; Listen both to what is being said and how it is being said; Help the mentee solve his or her problems, rather than give directions; Focus on the mentee’s development and resist the urge to produce a clone.” (University of Washington). Since the start of the Youth Mentoring Services in Northeast Iowa, 1,137 youth have been connected to a role model (“Youth Mentoring Services”). Kids who are mentored have ”significantly more confident in their academic abilities and considerably less likely to display behavioral problems.”(Centre for Addiction and Mental Health). Through the mentoring experience, Tim has learned that the best part is guiding some fun into a child's life while educating them (Egemo). This paper's purpose is to introduced the nonprofit organization boys and girls club of America explaining more about their involvement in helping preventing gang affiliation in youth , through activities children find interesting .The BGCA hope their mission will be fulfilled in preventing adolescents juvenile behavior such as joining gangs so they can have a chance at a future before it’s too late .The paper will introduce the BGCA and problems they face along with personal suggestions that could be solutions to fix the problems through coats estimation , budget and organizational designs.

The Americorps mentors work with elementary, middle, and high school students in the community with the goal of helping them graduate. Their work can range from tutoring to acting as a student mentor or even as a role model.

ANGELS Youth Organization 501(3) (c), is a community program base out of Wichita, KS. The organization help students who live in urban communities. ANGELS, foster programs that integrated educational, health, fitness, recreational, activities while embracing the potential of each students and developing life skills and talents that shape them into becoming future leaders and community citizens.

I want to open a not for profit youth center for teenagers from ages thirteen thru eighteen. The youth center would be a positive environment for teens to go to for academic stimulation as well as leisure enjoyment. The center would be fully staffed with licensed teachers for tutoring and enrichment programs. The program would furthermore have a counselor on staff for when students have events occur in their life and need guidance. This program would assist students in deciding what career path is best for them, and provide them with networking connections to be successful in the path they desire to take. An additional to the community group is the Mentoring 29:11 program. With this program, at -risk students are empower to succeed in the communities by attending summer enrichment programs, seminars and helping in their community. All of these organizations sheds some light on educating the students and families in communities around the area.
