Today the American Dream has a very broad meaning. Lots of different people dream for different things. Some people want to own a nice car and others want to have a family, but almost everyone in our society today wants a successful career. For example, everything our nation does while we are in our youth is to prepare us for our future jobs. We do things like attend school for thirteen years to prepare us for more schooling. The additional schooling is supposed to help us with our future jobs. In our society today people are not afraid to go through multiple careers to find the perfect one. The American Dream is a two sided discussion. Some believe the American Dream is easily accessible to anyone. Others believe the American Dream does not exist today. Then there is the gray area of believing the American Dream exists but is harder to achieve for some. The American Dream is also different for every person. People have materialist dreams. Hoping to have nice cars, big houses, and a full wallet. Compared to the Americans who dream of freedom, safety, and family.

The American Dream was designed for immigrants and people who wanted to start a new life. It was set to motivate people to succeed in life by having a nice home in a good neighborhood, a nice family with children who get good grades and to be married to the person you love. The American Dream began hundreds of years ago when the new colonies were forming. The people left Britain to escape poverty and to find religion. When they got here, some of the promises occurred but they were still in agony because they were still working for the rich as indentured servants. Now in modern day, success comes from hard work, motivation and a strive for greatness, but many other things can cause you to not achieve your goals. Therefore, the American dream is unrealistic because society sets high standards and not everyone has an equal shot.

From the perception of someone who desires the success of the American Dream, it is difficult to understand the steps that lead or hold one back to achieve the dream they want to acquire. The American Dream is perceived in many ways, however the only people who actually know how to achieve it are the ones who have found their term of success in America. Typically, the idea of the American Dream is for an individual to reach a point in their life where they are satisfied for what they have achieve, but that concept can varying depending on the individual. Although the American Dream is still the goal for many people around the world today, it is much more challenging for the less fortunate minority who face many obstacles that hold them back from their goal, therefore is not achievable today for those particular people this day and age.

The American Dream is not easy to obtain and never will be. The only way to achieve it is through working hard and not stopping, being successful in your riches, and sacrificing what you have. All of these combined creates the American dream. People will get what they want if they work hard, be successful, and sacrifice. I believe that being bilingual is essential for every individual, but getting on that bilingual level can be hard for someone if he comes from a different country that has different cultures and languages. I was born in Honduras, and I lived there for 14 years. I moved to US in 2014. I came to the US because I wanted to achieve the American Dream. I also believe that if I want to achieve my dreams, I must face different obstacles that will make me better as a person and will prepare me for my future . When I first arrived to the US, I didn’t think that not being able to speak English would be a big obstacle. I had a hard time in school because I did not know English. However, I learned that every obstacle can be overcome if I persevere and put effort to overcome it. Moreover, I believe that I can inspire others

First off, we must understand the definition of this so called, “American Dream”. A basic definition would describe it as, “the mindset that every US citizen should have an equal opportunity to achieve success and prosperity through hard work, determination, and initiative”. Now in a way this can either be true or false. You could either strive for success and work your entire life to make it to the “White picket fence”, or you could be born with a silver spoon and literally have everything you needed in life just given to you. This is also a lifestyle we all sought out to be an easy task to live every day in this “American Dream.” Let’s look into some readings that actually tell about these thoughts.

America no longer provides access to the American Dream to everyone. Many people go through so much trouble to accomplish this dream but, with the law getting stricter to immigrants they cannot live their American Dream.

America throughout time has been known as a country for opportunity and freedom, where anyone can come and have a fair chance at living their “American Dream.” The stereotypical American dream is having a two parent family, with stable income, owning a home with a white picket fence with two children. But the reality of America is that this “dream” is achieved more easily by white men. Even though America is supposedly “The land of the free” and provides “Liberty and Justice for all”, these statements are more of a source of irony than truth. In America a person’s social status, race, and gender play a large role in their ability to achieve the American dream. The color of one’s skin, how much money and social influence a person has, and what physical anatomy they contain affect how hard it is to attain their American dream. So the reality of America is that it is not as an equal opportunity land for everyone to achieve their dreams as it is thought to be.

I feel as if this quote is very relatable to my own life because I have faced several challenges and obstacles that have hindered my success. However, reading this quote gives me the drive to be able to overcome these obstacles and and achieve my American Dream. After completing the I-Search, I have learned that my American Dream of building strong relationships and having the right values in life is achievable through hard work, grit, passion, and drive.
