Do you know what’s the number one cause of death in America? Well the number one cause of death is heart related diseases. Many of these heart related diseases are caused by obesity. Obesity is “the condition of being grossly fat or overweight.” It is not just being thick boned, or even hereditary. Obesity has become a growing epidemic around the world! A very colossal problem here in the untied states of America; What is sad is that it is a disease one has caused due to their own choice of life style. Obesity has caused great dilemma in America. It was known as an adult disease. “Over two thirds of adults are over weight or obese.”(Obesity, Jerry R Ballenttne) these numbers are increasing rapidly. All of these sorts of foods trigger a pleasure sensor in your brain, its like a drug once u have taste you want more; plus who doesn’t like feeling good. (? ) Since many Americans are full time workers living in this fast pace life there really is no option for what to cook, or even have exercise in between, even to tired to do so. What has been booming would be fast food interposes and food markets and groceries where you don’t know where these meats and processed foods came from, or if they are really meat, or whole grains (healthy at all). Just because a label says it is healthy, doesn’t mean it is. To much of this unhealthy foods could not be good for you such as the documentary Fork Over Knifes, Dough Lisle, Ph.D. said “ it isn’t because they are lazier then they ever been … people became more self indulgent … their mechanisms of satiation are being fooled.” This is so because our stomach has receptor “stretch” receptors and “density” receptors; that helps it tell how much food we have eaten. Fast food (unnaturally rich or processed foods) deceive these receptors into telling your brain that you are not full .Due to this out brain tells us we have to consume more food in order to be satisfied. All these poor eating leads to many of he chronicle diseases, which could lead to high insurance cost and a lot of medication consumption. Since humans try to seek the easiest way to do anything, for instance
Obesity is defined as a medical condition in which excess body fat has accumulated to the extent that it may have an adverse effect on health, leading to reduce life expectancy and/or increased health problems. “The problem of obesity is increasing in the United States. Understanding the impact of social inequalities on health has become a public health priority in the new millennium. Social, political, and economic factors now are acknowledged to be "fundamental" causes of disease that affect behavior, beliefs, and biology.” (Goodman, 2003) In the United States today, obesity has become an enormous problem. In the last 3 decades, the number of people overweight has increased dramatically. Obesity has not always been seen as a medical
Obesity has been a growing problem in the U.S. for more than a decade. Various reasons and theories are thrown around as to the cause of this severe problem by psychologists, dietitians, and professors trying to pinpoint a single cause. Due to America’s vast supply of resources, luxurious living standards, and moral of the country, there is no one cause for obesity contrary to advertisements offering a quick-fix drug. America’s obesity problem is rooted much deeper than just cheap fast food and poor choices. Medical conditions, influence of genes, unhealthy lifestyles, and mental illnesses are all contributors towards obesity in any one person. Obesity is a serious problem in America with multiple contributors and one lone solution
“Obesity is a disease that affects more than one-third of the U.S adult population (approximately 78.6 million Americans). The number of Americans with obesity had steadily increase since 1960, a trend that has slowed down in recent years but show no sign of reversing”.
Moreover, Obesity is a vital root of many life-threatening diseases, like diabetes type 2, high blood pressure and even strokes. Most people who are obese are often associated with type 2 diabetes because obesity can cause resistance to insulin that produces the hormone to regulate sugar in the blood. Malnutrition motivates obesity whereby producing a lot of cholesterol, which closes up the bloodstream in the body, causing high blood pressure the process by which the heart is not able to pump the blood needed by the body. All this threaten the life of Americans and can lead to early death. Most obese Americans seem as if they do not care about what they eat nor drink. Their greatest concern about what they consume is fast food because they
Obesity is a medical condition in which excess fats have grown and accumulated to the point of harm, and a shortened life expectancy. Obesity is a problem that has been more prominent in the 20th and 21st century and is now a main concern for both society and the government. It is the citizen’s duty to resolve this epidemic known as obesity in the United States.
It is no surprise that obesity is becoming an increasingly prominent health concern. In fact, since 1980 global obesity has almost doubled. (1) “The percentage of children aged 6-11 years in the United States who were obese increased from 7% in 1980 to nearly 18% in 2012. Similarly, the percentage of adolescents aged 12-19 years who were obese increased from 5% to nearly 21% over the same period.” (2) “35% of adults aged 20 and over were overweight in 2008, and 11% were obese.” (1) To put these percentages into perspective, in 2008 the world population was at almost 7 billion, more than 1.4 billion adults, 20 and older, were overweight, roughly 500 million were obese. (1) Obesity can no longer simply be a concern; it is a
Obesity does not discriminate against social status, sex, or race; it can take a person’s life and turn it upside down in the blink of an eye if they are not careful. Some people think of obesity as a worldwide killer because there is no outrunning it if it overtakes a person’s body. Every 1 in 3 adults are obese right here in America, that should give each and every individual some type of hint that there is a major problem occurring. The obesity epidemic is not something that has just caught the attention of people recently; it has been going on since the 1950’s! This epidemic is a major problem; over 2.8 million people die each year as a result of being obese or extremely overweight and over 40 million children were said to be obese in
This research paper will address the issues of adults’ obesity in the United States. It includes obese population, effects of obesity on major health damages and life expectancy, and potential solutions to prevent and reduce the impacts of obesity on American adults. Obesity is a critical issue in today’s society because more than one-third, which is 35.7 percent, of adults are considered to be obese today in America, and the number is still increasing. Furthermore, obesity is a potential cause for many diseases, such as cancer, high blood pressure, type 2 diabetes, stroke, and more.
According to U.S. News, America is at the top as number one as the world’s most obese country. America’s obesity rates are still increasing. The waistline in the US is only getting bigger. (USN). The CDC, Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, wrote that one-third (78.6 million) of adults living in the United States are obese. Unlike all countries, many more amenities are to citizen’s disposal. Things such as food are much easier to get and the options are endless.
Everyone knows obesity is a big problem in America. Other countries see America as a ‘fat’ country and it is a growing problem that needs to be handled. The youth in America have even been influenced and have a problem themselves with teenage and child obesity. Although obesity is a big problem in America as a whole, teenage and child obesity is also a enormous problem that is growing every day.
In the world, more than two thirds of adults, about 68.8%, are considered to be obese (NIH, 2012). The consumption of westernized diets is something that is consuming the world itself. Throughout recent history the consumption food has become more and more of a dangerous act. The westernized diet often contains too many calories, sugars, and fats that people are ingesting daily. How is the constant consumption of this diet effecting everyday life? What are the changes internally that are causing disease and discomfort? If the consumption of the westernized diet is proven to be harmful, will that change the way that people perceive food? If proven to negatively impact physiological functions this knowledge may help the westernized culture
Obesity is believed to be an enormous problem for nearly one third of the world’s population. According to the fat chart, out of the 196 countries, the United States is 9th on the (“Calling Obesity” 3). 33.9 percent of America is obese. Obesity is more than just being
Many families feel the need to stop by a fast food place at least once a week because they are too busy or just don’t want to cook. Why do we like to eat out so much? Well, “Scientists believe that human beings acquired the senses to taste and smell in order to avoid being poisoned: in the natural world, thing that taste good and smell good are generally good for us, while things that are bitter or smell bad will often make us sick.” (17) Most people think that eating out once or twice a week won’t do any harm but eventually all those weeks add
America is one of the most obese countries worldwide; however, it is an obvious statement if applied to the real world around you. There are several fast food locations within blocks from each other on most streets. Fast foods, however, are not the only source of obesity; stress is also another factor that contributes greatly to weight gain in which one becomes overwhelmed with feelings and they seek food for comfort. Obesity might not be considered such a serious disease like cancer or AIDS, but it definitely is associated with heart-related conditions, diabetes, and premature aging of the entire body and brain. Thus, discussing obesity in a country like America, we as individuals must consider potential factors and causes in order to come up with a plan effective enough to seize this issue that decreases the quality of life.
The various health complications brought about by obesity are well documented. Nutritional experts have over time argued that obese individuals are at a higher risk of developing other health complications including but not limited to diabetes, coronary heart disease etc (Sobel and Schneider 47). However, regardless of the adverse consequences of obesity, the statistics (highlighted elsewhere in this text) clearly indicate that America is increasingly becoming an obese nation. With that in mind, obesity can be regarded one of the most urgent social problems the U.S. faces. In an attempt to contain the soaring rates of obesity, experts have offered various solutions over time. The U.S. should implement prevention and intervention measures to deal with the problem of obesity. This will in turn help reduce medical costs to individuals for the treatment of obesity related conditions, enhance the prosperity of the nation and help bring down the national healthcare costs.
