There are many contributing factors that create an anti-social society that we call the present. The main cause for this is that instead of making genuine conversation, we would rather use our phones. The more our phones advance the more we will notice awkward, if any conversation in the world. It is apparent that social media is creating a depressed, anti-social society.

A prevalent issue regarding social media and interactions exists between researchers and social network users. Social media is currently changing how relationships between people are created. Relationships can exist through people across the world through social media and can produce more emotional bonds with friends that you can see everyday. On the other hand, social media also could present conflicts due to the fact that some of these relationships can become unhealthy and that people could change to be more dependent on internet friends, becoming introverted.

Social media are websites or applications that most of people use every day, but it can cause several harmful effects, such as symptoms of mental health, increase cyberbullying, and reduce productivity. Social media is a place where people can share their personal information, pictures, videos, ideas, and different form of expressions. It also the great place where people can interact with each other by using the text posts or comments. Facebook, Instagram, Snapchat, Twitter are the platform social media that most of people use. Each people has different purpose of using social network, such as communicate with friends, or promote a business. According to the Statita.com, in 2017, 81 percent of U.S. Americans had a social media profile, representing a five percent growth compared to the previous year.

Technology plays a big role in people’s progression in relationships. Social media is the big boom in social relationships, they connect more people in more ways than one. Even though Parents worry about their children on social media, teens can find a positive outcome from it. Social media positively impacts teen relationships. Teens say that social media has more positive effects rather than negative on relationships. Also, most kids that are introverted can find kids that have similar interest online, and make new friends.

First, social networking removes a lot of face-to-face interaction among individuals. This effectively creates less social beings that rely on social networking for communication and are less competent when it comes to in-person interaction. Social networking also allows for a sense of anonymity, which creates reckless morals and gives people the ability to say harmful things with no consequence. Finally, social networking is a major distraction and a huge waste of time. Children and adults often opt to spend their time on social networking sites rather than being productive members of society. These problems continue to get worse and will escalate if they are not addressed and solved immediately

Social media has become a normal use of technology of an average college student. From Facebook and Twitter, there is a means of connecting students on diverse planes via the Internet. This allows employers to search any potential job candidate’s social media to investigate user’s posts to determine if they fit their position and hold themselves with high moral regard. If students do not monitor what they post, potential employers may be turned away because of inappropriate pictures, conversations, or other behaviors. Learning about proper social media uses can prevent qualified candidates from losing job opportunities.

From "thintastic" blogs to suicide stories, social media has become not only a source of conversation but a gateway to harmful suggestions that many teenagers see and believe to be allowable, when in fact the situations proposed are dangerous to those who attempt them. Statistics show that 20% of anorexic teenagers will die prematurely, and 80% of teenagers who commit suicide are depressed (South). Social media has glorified and brought to attention eating disorders, depression, and suicide among teens that might otherwise not become a statistic in these critical categories.

There are many negative effect of social media. The first one is cyberbullying. Cyberbyllying is an act of harassment towards someone else through an internet or social media. Cyberbullying have a big impact on someone’s else life because it can cause depression and anxiety, it even can lead to suicide if the victim couldn’t handle it well.

Statistics show that teens spend nearly 9 hours a day on social media websites, which is more than one-third of their day (Tsukayama). Social media, among teenagers and young adults, is quite popular. It is used on many different platforms and in so many ways which allows high schoolers to be constantly attached. Over the past decade, with the emergence of social media, the amount of time these websites consume from individuals has become greater and greater. Parents who have grown up in a different era of technology do not seem to understand the full effect of social media networks on teenagers. The first reason social media negatives side outweigh the positive is because social media can lead to cyberbullying which then can lead to suicidal thoughts.according to Rao jung the immediacy provided by social media is available to predator as well as friends.This mean that anybody can use social media and kids especially are the one who are more likely to be exposed to predators in social media.The article also stated”cyberbullying has spread widely among youth with 42% reporting they have been victim according to cbs news report” (Jung 2017). This quote show that young people have been spreading among the youth and 42% may not seem a lot now but the number might increase. This report was taken in 2010 and 7 years have been passed and with technology advanced the number might be a little higher than it was in 2010.

Social media is playing a huge part in our lives. Almost everyone has some sort of social media if it is Facebook, Instagram, Snapchat, Twitter, YouTube, etc. We hear, see, and talk about it everyday, even if we think we do not. When I think of social media I believe it is a positive because it helps with news, entertainment, and for making money. If there is anything we need, we go to the internet or social media. If we see something that is funny or useful, we take a picture of it and either save it and/or post it to social media.

“Distracted from distraction by distraction.” is a quote from T.S. Elliot that best describes what I see in a world obsessed with social media. Have you ever seen a family or a couple ignoring each other because they’re glued to their electronic devices while eating at a restaurant? How about a concert where a sea of fans direct their cell phones toward the performer rather than taking in the experience? This obsession with technology has wedged itself in between families and genuine interactions. If we do not open our eyes to the damaging effects of this phenomenon, our future generations may go so far down the rabbit hole they may never return.

Just as there are positive effects of social media, there are also negative effects as well. False connections are often made on SNS. Ninety percent of students have Facebook which is constructed to be socially shared with any user. It may seem obvious that users of social networking cannot stray far from reality from his or her online identity, although the users can depict what he or she wishes to display (Moreno et al. 452). There are many young teenagers on social networking websites posting true personal information, but there are also many young teenagers who false information. In fact, many young users of social networking, especially boys, give false information (Moreno et al. 251). Manipulation can occur in order for young users to join that network. Many times younger users have to lie about his or her age which is not always approved by his or her parents (Moreno et al. 253). A survey was done from children ranging from eight years old to twelve years old to provide the results that those who lied about their age did so within a four year range of their actual age. Thus, they knew they had to use false information, so they provided it with care (Moreno et al. 256).
