My American Dream may be different from yours, or the person sitting next to you, but that is what makes us all unique. We all have a different dream or version of the “perfect reality” that we are chasing. My American Dream consists of having a job I love, a family, money to support my family comfortably, and a long life to enjoy all of the little things that life has to offer. I would like to spend my first two years of college at Camden County, then I would like to attend Arcadia University for the last two year. I would like to become an accountant and receive my CPA in accounting. After graduating from college, I would like to move down south, preferably to Georgia, because that is where I spent all of my summers when I was younger, and
The idea of the American dream revolves around attaining happiness, success and equality. For higher wealth classes obtaining these components aren't a concern; but for many, the American Dream has become a nightmare. For the poor being able to obtain simple necessities such as food, clothing and shelter is a daily struggle. The price of being poor is a lot costlier then those in the realm of the wealthy. Based on the current economic and social systems in America it does not provide everyone with a fair chance to achieve the “American Dream”. In todays society many Americans believe money is the only way to happiness. True or not true, money certainly isn't a hindrance to obtaining the necessary components for survival. But if the American Dream is no longer about happiness and freedom it becomes solely about wealth and possession. "Money cannot buy happiness." (Anonymous, Spring Board pg.81) represents the concept that money doesn't necessarily play apart in your emotional well-being. Today, materialism is more important than character. Money isn't everything; you don't need it to be happy and certainly not to achieve "The American Dream". In addition to that, although money can jump-start your future it can also drive you into the ground. Dana Gioia, the author of "Money", says "...Money holds heads above water..." Implying money plays a crucial part in keeping your dreams alive while America demands so much. Although finances are a building block to ones version of the
The best aspects from my essay were the intro and the use integrating quotes in the essay. I believe that the intro was one of the best part because it followed the parts of a inverted pyramid and that it grabs the reader and makes them want to read more. In the essay when it states “Everyone has one dream or goal in life and there are certain characteristics one must possess to achieve that dream, but things might get in the way of being able to achieve that dream”, it makes people think how is the american dream not achievable and what are the characteristics needed to try to achieve the dream. This makes the reader want to continues to read. The use of intergrading quotes was another thing that stood out in my essay. In examples such as, “At Rene’s school his class is sharing what they want to be when they are older and Rene shares with the class that he would like to be an astronaut or an actor or a magician. His teacher responds to what he said
The American Dream is something that everyone wants to experience, yet not everyone gets the opportunity to experience the fairytale of the American Dream. Immigrants traveled from all over to come to America to experience the glam and glory that America had to offer. To be an American it typically means to be white, rich, to own land/property, and most of all be native to this country. The American Dream originally meant people coming to America and working hard for the lives that they thought they deserved. This dream meant people coming together in harmony and there being no violence. This dream was also perceived to help those in need and America becoming the access route for those in need. In today’s society, The American Dream is viewed
First, let's define "American Dream". "American Dream" is what you would consider a "perfect life." It can be full of happiness, money, love, food, cars, whatever you desire, everyone has a different opinion. One person’s American Dream may be totally different from someone else’s, that is what makes us all individuals. My American Dream would include a good job and lots of money, spare time for my family and I, and most importantly, healthiness.
Through everybody’s eyes is their own version of the American Dream. Whether it’s the stereotypical dream with a good job, a family, and a house with a white picket fence, or it could be just getting by at the end of the month financially. The American Dream doesn’t have a specific image but rather a particular mindset. Lots of people have a goal in their life that they have to work hard to be successful towards that goal, but in most cases that goal may be unrealistic.
a. The impact cultures in North America have on the United States is that each region adapted the traditions and/or beliefs of those who settled in that area by maintaining dance, music, and crafts. Many English settlers did not respect the Native American cultures, and were seen as uncivilized and/or savages. Basically there was a clash of cultures, with new ideas pushing away old ways and mayor cultures oppressing others.
If we ask most Americans what is American Dream? the common answers are to become successful, rich, owning house, cars and etc. In other countries, many people see America as a land of opportunities for a better life and that is the reason why they come here. Every individual who comes to America has their goals or dreams that they want to fulfill in life that they could not fulfill in their own country. In another word, their American dream is to have a better life for themselves and their children, better education, more rights, and freedoms. For instance, my parents came to America so we could have a better life and better education that we could not have in our country. That was their definition of American Dream, to have a better life for their children. Like most Americans and my parents' definition of the American dream, my meaning of American dream is to have a better education, having rights and freedoms as American citizens, and to become successful.
There are many stories out there that one tends to hear about horrific tragedies that have occurred over the years, and one of the most devastating events that had happened was Hurricane Katrina. Dave Egger’s Zeitoun details the events and struggles of one man and his family, Abdurrahman Zeitoun during this devastation. In a time where everyone was panicking and rushing to find ways and areas where they can evacuate and stay safe from the storm, Zeitoun had remained constant about staying behind in order to protect those who remained and needed help. Regardless of how this impending doom was, he had chosen to remain because he knew there were people that would
The American dream is why there are millions of people in America, and why we have the things we have. It’s what makes the people we have today we have freedom. Some people follow the American dream to become rich. The America dream was supposed to make life better and that was progressing until now. The American dream brings the whole nation together to improve everything(Wikipedia). America usually solves problems and issues that others have with us. The American dream changed through the centuries and its been slowly it improved. Many people are fighting for middle class and higher class and it works out for them which is good., the prospect of "betterment" and to "improve
College had previously seemed like an unrealistic dream but now it seems very realistic. My lineage goes back to Mexico. My mother was born and raised in Chihuahua, Mexico; my father was born and raised in Matamoros, Mexico. They each attended two years of elementary school and soon after dropped out. This was so they could help provide for their families. They both had farms with a lot of animals. Their everyday work was hours of unruly heat and manual labor. They were not compensated but got worn hands and strong backs. This was necessary so everyone could get fed, and so that there could be a roof over their heads. They have struggled for most of their lives.
An american dream would to have family/friends, enough money to satisfy yourself, and a good, well paying job. For instance, living a regular life
The American Dream is an idea of how one might want their future to be. The American Dream was first thought of when other races (other than american) saw that they were treated differently, by the people and the country. Each country has different lifestyles for people, houses have a different cost and people don’t earn the same minimum wage. The American dream is what gives people hope to be free, to have what everyone else has.
We share the same idea of what the traditional American Dream is "family, entrepreneurship, and a fresh start." The citizens that had believed in traditional American Dream wanted for America to thrive as a county. They were trying to build America into an unstoppable country. Now we are one of the greatest countries in the world with families and many businesses; the people have what they need from the previous ancestors which is why I believe that the traditional American Dream has faded away. Now, we are more considered about what we want instead of need. You stated " We are always designing new technological advances and ways to benefit ourselves and make ourselves happy." This shows how our new American Dream is like. The people are more
My life changed a lot the day I set foot on the, land of honey, the United States of America, last March of 2015. To be able to experience the sudden “switch” in my life from my homeland, the Philippines to America, is quite a lot to take from the beginning. I mean what’s not hard to do when you’re doing it for the first time, right? There are a lot of points of comparison between living in the Philippines and America.
The smell of junk foods and lit cigarettes in the street plus the mass of technology implied to me that something was odd. Looking around the area, I knew I wasn’t at home anymore.
