Middle school and high school were very different for me. Both schools lack diversity and consisted of people just like me, but in middle school everyone’s identity were practically the same. I attended Catholic school until high school and had all white classes until then too. Throughout middle school I was a rather mischievous student who did not place academics too highly on my list of priorities, so I was often making the teacher’s job much harder than it needed to be. If not for how involved my family and I were with the church and the school my in class experience would not have been as pleasant. The only way that we ever learned about our own identity was through religion classes and through church so the fact that the entire school probably had less than five students of ethnicity in a school with grade 3-8 in it was never addressed. In middle school almost everyone was middle class or at least were not struggling like some of the families in more urban areas. If a family did begin to struggle enough financially they simply went to another school because the cost of Catholic school was no longer a luxury that they could afford. So the school not only consisted of people with the same race but also eliminated people that were not from the same economic background. In high school the majority of students were white as that is 92% of the student body and I was not a minority in anyways but it was much different due to how extreme my middle school experience was in
Early College High Schools (ECHS) are innovative high schools that allow students least likely to attend college an opportunity to earn a high school diploma and 60 college credit hours. Early College High Schools:
Many people endure three years of middle school and four years of high school. It is an eventful time for children between 11 to 18 years old. During the adolescent years there are hormonal changes, environmental changes and emotional developmental gains. Middle school is the beginning of transitioning towards independence under the constant eye of adults. During high school they are challenged with real-world challenges that help them transition into adulthood. The behaviors of these individuals change as the factors change around them. For every person, the experience of high school or middle school may be different. Either way, both have the same goal of wanting the student to succeed and evolve. Even so, the similarities and differences vary. Middle school and high school are alike in the areas of receiving an education, socializing with others, and having teachers while different in areas of maturity, difficulty in work, and independence.
I went to Middle School in Knob Noster Missouri for half of Middle School, then moved in the middle of 6th grade. I started Middle School when I was 10, in 5th grade. It was unusual to start Middle School in 5th grade, but at the end of 4th grade, the school education board said that there wasn’t enough room in our elementary school, so they moved the 5th grade to the Middle School. We were the first 5th grade class to experience Middle School in the whole community. I felt older and cooler than all of the other 5th graders before me. When I came in on the first day of school, we made a time capsule and buried them in the supplies cabinet, instead of outside because it was against the rules to dig up school property. We brought in some things that were really important to us, and put them into a large pringle container. The neatest thing that we did was cut a piece of string as tall as us, then at the end of year we would do the same thing and see how much we had grown in that year. I had grown 1.5 inches that year. I was also the tallest in the class back then.
Going from elementary to middle school is hard. There are lots of things that are different between the both of them. Math, Science, Soc-st, English, Reading is all things I learned this year. There's more I learned besides Classes I learned about middle school sports and activities outside of my main classes. There are many things I learned and I hope that I learn more Things next year.
From my perspective there was a significant transition between middle school and high school. In middle school I was in a social clique were I could describe it as the Mexican clique. Although this may sound very adolescent egocentric, the Mexican clique was very well known among ourselves and among other cliques. Among this social clique there were various levels
For some, the transition from middle school into high-school can be drastic change in scenery and environment. People have different ways in getting ahead and learning. Those things might be to have good time management, good note taking skills, and amazing concentration considering the things that can go on in a classroom while the teacher is teaching or giving instruction.
I’ll start this paper with my fourth grade years. Then into my fifth grade years. Next, to my sixth grade. Finally, to seventh grade year. These four years of my life have been a blast and now I get to share this awesomeness with you! All these memories are never going to leave me and just know that what I tell today is what makes me. Now let’s begin…
Coming from a very conforming country into one that has people from all various backgrounds and ethnicities seemed strange to me. In a class consisting of thirty students, I could count off about twenty different countries that were represented by the individuals who sat in my class alone not to speak of the entire student body. Some of them had heavy accents like I did, especially my 7th-grade math teacher. I struggled to dissect her words and catch up with what the class had learnt in my absence. Similarly, in other classes, I found it difficult to comprehend what my fellow peers and teachers were saying, but that did not hold me back from attaining good grades. Math was a bit of a challenge for me. For example, the word 'vertex' was pronounced by teacher as 'vor-ticks'. Because of that, an entire week of school passed where I remained
For my JA Experience, I was assigned to attend Moss Bluff Elementary School. I was assigned to a regular Kindergarten class. This school was a predominately Caucasian school. Just by my guess, I would say at least 95% of the students at this school were Caucasian. In the classroom I was in, there were all Caucasian students and the teacher was too. All of the staff members I saw were also Caucasian as well. I was never able to see the entire student body, but from what I saw this is what I estimated. In the class room I observed there were 11 males and 10 females. In this classroom, I would say that all of these students came from a higher class income family or middle class. All students looked nice with some of the best clothing
High School was way more different than my earlier schools, there wasn't a lot of colored kids. Freshman year was a struggle in making friends, I would fill my head with thoughts that told me I chose the wrong school to attend. I felt as if all the kids knew where I came from, I knew the stereotypes for Mexicans and I felt that was how I was viewed by the other students. I'm sure a lot of the kids didn't have those views, but I bet my money some of them did. I remember specific times in certain classes where I would do something academically right like answer a question correctly and the heads of some would turn towards me in shock, and I'd just think 'Yes, you guys, I can speak English fluently and I have the cerebral power to answer a question correctly.' This continued till sophomore year, when I started hanging out with friends that I could relate to. This gave a boost in my social life, my group of friends showed me to take pride in being the minority. Junior year and senior year were the time of my life thanks to my friends, to the school my friends and I were known as Bean Squad, go figure. We took the name as a token for our diversity, we stood out from the rest of the school, but were still part of the same community. I never experienced face to face racism at the school because the other kids were smart enough not to disrespect me,
Middle school and high school sound very similar but they are not. All of the classes, activities, and opportunities change. It will not be the same as what you are use to. You will grow up having fun in high school.
For me I experienced diversity my whole life. Growing up moving all along the West Coast, going to schools ranging from Arizona to California to Washington state, diversity in these public schools were always a normal experience in classrooms, some places more prevalent than others. All of my teachers growing up did a great job of pointing out that diversity was present within the classroom, and that though were all different we need to treat each other as equal. It wasn’t until later in my schooling career that I realized that some of my peers who were “different” and “diverse” were experiencing not only different lifestyles, but hardships due to these differences. I came to realization that is not a problem that schools face alone but society
Yes all A’s, the rest of the year i am going for all A’s and B’s. Because im am currently failing the 8th grade my first and second quarter. I had below a 2.0 because I had came into 8th grade. Like it was going to be a breeze and let me tell you now. It is not is very difficult it is not going to be a breeze.
Through seventh grade I went to a small elementary and middle school with family and friends that I knew all my life where the teachers did not believe in homework and everyone looked like me. Diversity was not something we talked about or saw in our small town. From that background, I then began a new stage in my life as an eighth grader at a new school where uniforms were required, homework was a given, and the student body was at least three times as large and quite diverse.
Stages. Since the moment one is born, since the first taste of air our lunges experience, humans start to go through stages. The minute our petite feet step into elementary school, to the time we leave middle school and venture into high school; we are going through eras. Elementary school is the period from first grade to fifth grade. Middle school is the next phase from sixth grade to eighth grade. During this chapters of our lives, we acquire knowledge like sponges absorb water. Both these stages are essential to the creation of fecund children. The stages of middle school and elementary school are two unique worlds, but they are in the same universe.
