A Capitalist Economy vs Socialist Economy There are a variety of economic systems today, which can influence how prosperous we will be as individuals or as a group. Socialism is an economic system where the government will be greatly involved in the economy. In a socialist economy the government can control many industries, provide public institutions such as health care and education, and equalize incomes of the population. A socialist economy is one of low unemployment and stability, where the government sets production quotas and price regulation upon their perception of the needs of the economy.

The Market Revolution can be described as an early manifestation of capitalism, an era associated with a new sense of individual rights, equality, and freedom. The Market Revolution took place in the early 19th century, and it drastically changed not only the market and commerce of Americans but their personal lives as well. Before the Market Revolution America hadn’t seen any new life changing innovations, most of their goods, such as clothing and farming tools, were still being made from home, and trade was limited by poor roads and little means of transportation. In addition, the poor road system meant that there was little interaction and movement between each state. It wasn’t till the creation of new ways of communicating, steamboats, and the building of canals, railroads, and turnpikes that prompted American expansion. As a result, the United States began to see a movement of settlements westward and the rise cities. The Embargo of 1807 and the War of 1812, led to the cutoff of British imports and the need to establish the first large –scale factories; the rise of factories then led to new employment and a boom in domestic manufacturing (Foner 331). The market revolution in the United States brought a sudden change in the manual labor system originating in south and digressed to the north and later spread to the entire world. The integral part of the economic growth in the United States in the nineteenth century was a good thing that brought change in the market. Free-market and Command economy are the two-major economy system. It has sparked years of controversies among individuals over which system is better. However, no agreement has been reached. Meanwhile, it is obvious that free-market economy predominates all around the world as the majority of countries are following an economy which free-market process the dominating position.

In the early nineteenth century, the United States experienced a huge overhaul. Though the reformations and Jacksonian democracy were also important, the Market Revolution managed to transform the United States on a massive scale due to the expansion of transportation, the creation of new jobs, and the newfound prevalence of slavery. Prior to the Market Revolution, transportation was an issue. Whether it was the transportation of goods, the transportation of people, or the transportation of ideas, Americans, particularly those in the North, thought the transportation was too slow and came up with ways to combat the grueling speeds. Free enterprise and Command economies tend to contradict each other with the way they handle the production and growth with in an economy. But when a Mixed economy is into play these two different economies get combined. In this essay I will explain both of the economies and tell how they work together

Each Economy is very diverse and unique from the next. An example of a market economy is in the US, and in a market economy there is a great deal of individual freedom and less government involvement. A market economy is based on Capitalism. A Traditional economy is a small group of people who are their own government. Not many societies today use a traditional economy. In a command economy the government controls all economic decisions. Capitalism is an incredibly efficient market system yet it comes at distinct costs. A core problem of capitalism is the manner it fulfils human need and desire. It is a system of preference satisfaction. This is a problem because people’s preferences seldom align with the things that will actually make them happy. If only I had a faster car, computer and cell phone, I would finally be… The end of the sentence is never even finished. The ultimate end of happiness is replaced with the proximate ends of fulfilling a desire, inculcated by capitalism to begin with. This is advanced in the 21st century where we spend much of our time absorbing media designed by the capitalist system to stimulate our expenditure; to create desires that never existed, that when fulfilled will bring no fulfilment, no happiness. A core notion of capitalism is freedom. Freedom from the government to pursue whatever ends you believe will bring you happiness.
