If schools started all year round school students would have more stress. That long summer break gives students time to unwind and relieve stress. This break lets students forget about school and live their lives easier without all the homework, classwork, test, and projects. Students also get time away from all the troubles that other students may cause. This long summer break also gives students more time to have fun. Students love summer because they are away from school and they can have more fun. They can hang out with friends, family, or just chill by themselves. They have more time instead of half of their days going to school to go outside and go on adventures. They can go out of town, or just go to the movies or the mall with friends. Not having all year round school gives students time to work. …show more content…
During school students can only work after school or after school activities. Not having to deal with school students could work in the morning and have the rest of the day to relax, or work a full work day. More work equals more hours, more hours equals more moneys which means students have more money to go spend at stores on themselves or to enjoy
The opposers of year round schooling have little argument to work with, but stress it strongly. The summer is a prime time for high school students to pick up short-term jobs to help pay for looming college fees, jobs like being a lifeguard at the pool is not available all year round throughout the United States. College students also have the opportunity to enroll in summer classes in order to meet pre-requisites for other classes. Summer classes could be a deciding factor on how early a student graduates. Also, a three-month summer break creates an easier, less stressful timeframe to plan a vacation. Instead of working a vacation into the shorter, known breaks of year round schooling, parents have three months to figure their week long vacation into. The most powerful argument is the effect on extracurricular activities. The frequent, short breaks in year round schooling would have an effect on extracurriculars like band because it would be required that they take the vacation off and could miss potential time to prepare before a performance. The traditional schooling system is still the majority in the United States even with very few benefits and no advantage over year round
What do you do during summer break? Do you go on a long family trip, or do you have to get a job? Now imagine if those plans were ruined by year round schooling. Year round schooling is not beneficial for students and teachers because it can cause more stress, students get summer jobs, and people go on family trips and spend time with family and friends during summer break.
With the frequent breaks that come along with year-round schooling, this helps the students and teachers to not become overwhelmed by being overcrowded. Just like schools with a traditional calendar, year-round school students attend 180 days of school. The only difference is is that year-round schools have a multi-track system that consists of four different tracks. The way this schedule works is that while one track is out of school for a fifteen day break, three other tracks are in school for 45 days. Once the group that was on a fifteen day break have returned to school, one track will be sent out on their fifteen day break. ("What Is A Multi-Track Year Round Calendar?" 15). The three month vacation many kids get is not such a good thing. This is because over the course of three months, children forget half of what they had learned previously. Year-round schooling provides children to retain information much better by having shorter, more frequent breaks. A comparison was done between three year-round schools and three standard schedule schools to compare how much knowledge was gained by the students by the end of the year. The three year-round schools had gained 10.05% more knowledge of math and 10.52% reading skills by the end of the school year. The standard schedule school had gained 7.71% more knowledge of math and 8.91%. ( "Year-Round School Statistics" 8). As you can see, year-round school increases students' knowledge, and offers a better learning environment by providing appropriate durations for breaks for students and teachers to relieve themselves from the stresses of
They state, “...some have found that students lose a lot of what they learn during the school year when they go into summer.” This supports my claim because during summer, students focus on having fun, not on education. Also, the frequent breaks allow for teachers and students to regenerate and refresh without forgetting the materials that have been taught previously. Traditional schools don’t have as many breaks and this can lead to children becoming worn-out and not doing their best. Another problem is coming back to school in fall and not getting the concepts the teachers are reviewing or using.
Students need time to relax and de-stress. With the accumulation of homework, projects, assignments, tests and quizzes, students are constantly working and have no time to relax. This can be overwhelming, but students still put in the effort just to make it through the year because they know they can rest in the summer. Furthermore, this could cause students to become unmotivated because they will think that they are trapped in a prison in which they are boundlessly doing work and will never meet their own goals. A longer vacation will allow us to clear our minds and open them to new possibilities that would not be possible if we were to follow the same routine every day. Likewise, it is not only the students that need this vacation, but it is also the staff and faculty as well who would definitely rather see their family and friends instead of the students for a whole year. Most of these families go on holidays, but sometimes
Having a three month summer gives kids a break to spend time with their family, friends, and time to do what they want. I went on an Alaskan Cruise in 2012 for a month of my summer. It was a very interesting experience. Kids that go to a year-round school can’t have this great experience to go and travel around to some places. According to “Year-Round Schooling Explained” by Education
Do you ever wonder why the kids cause so much chaos during vacation? Well they have too much time on their hands and not enough supervision. Back when we lived in a basic economy, summer vacation made sense because academic achievement mattered less. An absence of air conditioning or modern hygiene turned crowded schools into health-risks, and children had moms who were home every day. Times have changed now, so we have no need for summer vacation. Year Round schools would be successful because GPAs will rise and graduation rates will increase also children would have a safe place to go
How would you like to be in school during summer? Maybe that’s why it’s called year round school. For me personally, I hate year round school just as much as normal school. I hate them because you get less family time and the scheduling is all different.
To start with, if schools offered year round school, the kids wouldn’t forget as much information over the big, long, and fun summer. For example, if you go to balanced school year, yes you would have to go to school earlier, but you won’t have to review all the boring stuff from the previous year. In the long run it will help you out a lot. Also, you can be enjoying your extra-long break while other kids are in school, learning and being tortured.
As a student, what we look forward to and what motivates us to get through the school year is summer break.
Kids are always looking forward to summer because of all of the fun activities planned for summer break. The break dates back many years because it was first based off of agriculture. Some school in the U.S are starting to break tradition, and have year round school. This is because many studies show that the long break will cause students to dismiss the information from their mind and can impact their academic abilities. School should be year round because there are many benefits to the students academic abilities.
Summer vacation. The time to hang out with your friends and have fun. Right? Schools in the US are debating on whether or not to have year round school. Yay or nay? Having year round school is a great idea.
According to Brittany Chu, relaxing in the summer helps kids recharge and get ready for the fall upcoming. The most important thing is that kids get to relax from the stress filled school year. Most kids at the end of the school year are jumping out of there seat, but kids with no summer don’t get that felling. Some kids have to get jobs in the summer and if they don’t have summer they don’t get to they might have to pay for tuition (Chu). As a student for me I use the summer brake to just get my energy back kick back and relax sleep in I would just miss that. In addition, Chu says Most kids just want to sit back on their couch and be a potato but going to school in the summer doesn’t let
As mentioned before, summer break is held dearly to many people. It gives both teachers and students time to prepare for the new year. Students and teachers need the long break after being pushed to their limit near the end of the year as well. Not to mention, once teens are old enough to bypass child labor laws in their specific state, they’ll most likely want to take a summer job. Summer jobs are vital to jump-starting a career, and when your summer
The first reason why kids should have summer break is because kids should create memories with their families. According to Valerie Huepenbecker, in summer, outdoor activities are a good way to make memory’s. In addition, what you do by yourself isn’t as fun as doing it with your family. Sit down or go on vacation with them. Time is flying by not to make memories with your families. As well as Huepenbecker, memories that you make with your families last a life time. That’s why kids and parents need to make memories with their families over summer break.
