They have the ability to influence those around them with various leadership styles including coercive, authoritative, affiliative, democratic, pacesetting, and coaching. Participative style of leadership is the type where the entire team works in collaboration. Leadership is a process whereby an individual influences a group of individuals to achieve a common goal. The texts that I read in courses throughout the program influenced me greatly. One of my favorite texts was Covey’s, The 7 Habits of Highly Effective people. Ever since, I have been working on those habits and have found them to be very effective in my leadership role. The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People (Covey, 2004), the author discussed how effective leaders habits lead to grow from dependence to independence, and ultimately interdependence. Effective leaders are proactive, and they began with the end in their mind, by putting first thing first, by thinking of “win-win,” seeking first to understand and then to be understood, synergize, and to sharpen the saw. Research has shown that people who developed these skills were highly effective (Covey, 2004). Private victory was achieved when leaders developed from a dependent to independent stage, and public victory occurred when leaders had mastered inter-dependence.
Leaderships are to focus on the goals of being a leader. An instrumental leader wants to ahead of all task seriously. So, she will give it to her top worker that she knows will succeed. Expressive leader is there to support you, they are there to make sure you have everything together emotionally. I display the kind of leader I would want to follow after having the experiences of leading others in my current occupation. Finally the visuals I visualize as an Education Director, I was able to enforce as an Academy Director. I was given a promotion as an Academy Director at a child care center. My arrival at the new Academy was not with the requirements and desires of generating instant changes; instead I observed for a month, I asked several questions to the pervious Education Director, and I began to learn the staff members. Gradually over time changes were applied.
In this research paper, my endeavor is to explain my concept of an Advancing Leadership Style. I will identify the characteristics of a leader, and the external and internal environments that would play a part in any leadership style. Additionally, I will demonstrate how this leadership model assists in moving the organization forward in the direction of the mission or goal and assist in defining the organizational culture. Finally, I will show how this model is useful to the leader and followers by comparing other leadership models and their effects on the organization and followers.
